Upscale restaurant in an antique, historic casual dining setting.
This restaurant is directly affiliated with the Culinary Arts
School at nearby Columbia College.
Entrée prices are around $20-$30. About what you would expect
at a good quality restaurant.
Menu rotates quarterly, but it is always impressive and interesting.
Fall, 2002 menu included interesting items such as:
Sierra Foothills Coq Au Vin ? with Sierra Sangiovese Sauce, vegetables,
Yukon Gold Potato Puree $18.00. Roast Loin of Lamb with organic
black barley $18.00. Filet of Tenderloin with Bleu Cheese Crust
$26.00. Rib Eye ran $21.00 Soups are thick and hearty, but could
have been just a little bit hotter. They arrived warm.
Desserts were equally upscale and interesting:
Pippin Apple Crisp with vanilla bean ice cream $6.50 French Vanilla
crème brulee $6.50.
Service is excellent, and portions are average, but attractively

The City Hotel Restaurant is located in Columbia State
Historic Park in the heart of the Gold Country. Restored
in 1975, the restaurant combines the efforts of the
State of California, the non-profit City Hotel Corporation,
and Columbia College. Our professional staff and the
college's Hospitatlity Management students take special
pride in making your dinner a memorable experience.
Chef John Littlewood has been featured in at the Awhanee
Hotel in Yosemite National Park and in Bon Appetit
Magazine.
