Went here for the first time a few days ago. Loved the setting on Fourth Street in Berkeley. Lots of nice shops to browse before your meal. Restaurant decor is a clever, modified art deco style, that oozes a casual elegance. The bar area was mostly occupied by patrons who were dining, while enjoying a glass of wine. The main level has floors and a high ceiling, so it was slightly noisy, but we found our seat near the window quite pleasant and enjoyed watching the people on the terrace outside, viewed the sunset, and loved hearing the train whistle as it traveled past the window, about every 15 minutes. There is also a second level that overlooks the downstairs. We shared the romaine salad, with Fiji apples, celery root, pecans and amish blue cheese with a vinegrette. The lettuce was cut too small and was difficult to eat with a fork, the apples and celery root were julienned so finely, that the flavors were not existant. There was plenty of pecans and blue cheese, but t ... more

My favorite place for steak. First go to Cody's Books and get something delicious to read then come here for lunch on a summer day and have steak frites with a lovely glass of pinot noir and ascend to heaven. Sure, you'll spend $35 but it will do your spirit as much good as a spa treatment!

Have dined here on a couple of occasions. Lovely place if you'd like a nice lunch. The atmosphere is pleasant but doesn't quite seem to reach the level the prices might indicate. I have been seated upstairs twice...if you are against the edge it is quite nice..but when seated more towards the back I felt as if I was in no man's land. It does have a nice oyster bar.

the food was delicious 'n i thought the decor was very reminiscent of eos in sf. it was strange having a meat market in the restaurant, but it somehow gave me an impression of europe. don't ask me y. just try this fusion restaurant. very innovative 'n a true hidden treasure.

3 years ago I wasn't that impressed. But we just had a outstanding dinner.Started with fuyu and prosciutto salad with basalmic vinegar. Had a difficult time deciding between the pork chop or braised beef. The pork chop had a slightly smoky flavor and was perfectly cooked - moist but with no trace of pink. Came with a baby squash and cabbage. I ordered a side of French fries which were even better than the ones at Rick and Anns. My friend had the cioppino (he wasnt in the mood for meat) and it had a spicy bite to it - quite delicious. This is a meat lovers place, tho' a high end one, they have an on site meat market counter. Service was excellent, attentive but not invasive. We'll be back soon when we want another nice dinner.

Solid, competently prepared, delicious food without a lot of frills. You can't go wrong with any of the rotisserie items on the menu. Desserts are homey and well done. Service is on the casual side but the prices are definitely not. Reminds me a lot of Lulu in SF but without the hip/chic/urban freneticism.

I've dined here 3 times and all three times have been wonderful experiences. A nice wine selection accompanies this restaurant's menu. The Romaine salad, with the apple cider vinaigrette dressing blends superbly with the hazelnuts and blue cheese. A great choice of fresh oysters from their oyster bar, and always a great hamburger...the best anywhere. The pork loin with mashed winter root vegetables & grilled endives should not be missed. Do not skip out on the desserts! Ginger-poached pears are a delightful treat! If they are on the menu, do not hesitate! A great staff all around! Although there was 1 bartender that needs to be a bit more cheery, and needs to practice on her Martinis!
