Comments: They were good in a nice setting, though a bit over-priced
in the end.

One of the few restaurants left in what was a rather large chain
of upscale steak houses from the 1970s. Charley Browns was at
one time a premier surf and turf place. Now, it is simply overpriced.
It still, however, can offer you a good steak meal in a relatively
quiet atmosphere - something that Stuart Anderson's really
cannot do too well.

This is the upscale version of Black Angus. The quality is about
the same as Black Angus, but I didn't see much added value in the
higher price. The restaurant is probably located strategically
to get business clients in the nearby aerospace and software
industry.

Not one of the best members of this variable-in-quality
corporate steakhouse chain.
While the selection of steaks, seafood, and
similar fare is, in general, not bad, this particular
resturant has had numerous problems in food preparation
and in service (the latter being sometimes utterly
clueless).
On my last dinner here we waited almost an hour for
the main courses to arrive (40 minutes after the salad
course), and my steak was medium-well instead of medium-
rare, and they forgot the special mushroom and roasted
garlic topping (it was part of a daily special).
When I mentioned this the manager went and had them
make a topping, which turned out to be a watery
mixture of sauteed mushrooms and green onions, with
no roasted garlic. Pitiful.
The manager comped the meal for both of us, but it was
simply not worth the risk of a ruined evening.
Try Del Monte Restaurant (Murphy St., Sunnyvale) or
Sundance Mine Company (El Camino Real, Palo Alto)
for a good steak instead.
