I'm sorry I was not impressed with this restaurant. Yes,
the views are dynamo, but I think it is a tad overrated. I could
not even eat my main entree, it tasted that bad. Maybe I ordered
the wrong thing, but for those prices everything on the menu better
taste absolutely superb...it didn't. My experience gives
this place 3 stars.

Since September of 2000, The restaurant at Auberge du Soleil
has been under the tutelage of Executive Chef Richard Reddington.
The food is beyond good. The Chef's Prix Fixe Menu is a wine and
food extravaganza. It is right up there with The French Laundry.
Reddington, from New York originally, has worked in such restaurants
as Postrio and Jardinere. Auberge du Soleil is a must when visiting
the Napa Valley. The views and ambiance are unparalleled anywhere
in the World. Service is excellent and the award winning wine
list is unbelievable.

Andrew Sutton is one of the more creative chef's in all of California.
His signature menu is "Sharing of the Senses" - so called because,
in Sutton?s words, "Food is the only art form experienced by every
sense." Its courses feature Taste (Caviar Cannollis with Crab
Relish and Osetra Caviar), Sound ("Sizzzling Tapas"), Aroma
(Duck Consumme? Infused with Chamomile, Lemon Balm and St. John?s
Wort) and Touch (Grilled Wild Salmon in Corn & Lobster Aqua Pazza).
Excluding beverage, tax and gratuity, the "Sharing of the Senses"
menu is $75. Well worth it! Also, the menu suggests the perfect
wine to pair with each course.

The view is breath taking. You can see the wineries below. Very
beautiful and romantic. The service was excellent. The food was
first class. Everything looked so good and tasted delicious. I
would recommned lunch or dinner here. The food is worth every penny
and if they served this food in San Francisco, they would charge a
lot more for it. The crab cakes are a great starter and for the
main course, my favorites are chicken satay and the foie gras and
duck club.

I can't believe this restaurant isn't in this guide yet!
L'Auberge du Soleil is the primo hotel/restaurant in the
Napa/St Helena area. (Technically it is in Rutherford -
off the Silverado Trail.) I have only had lunch there which
is what is reflected in price. Dinner is considerably
more expenseive, but I'm sure worth it. The food was
perfect - delicate, unusual, artfully presented, excellent.
The view of the Valley is unsurpassed. Lunch for 2 is
about $50 with wine - typical for Napa Valley quality
restaurants and this one is the best so far!
