You've gotta visit this restaurant once. The atmosphere and
decor are exceptional. The food is not the best and portions tend
to be quite small but not bad overall. The garlic eggplant is excellent.

The best part of this thai restaurant is definitely the atmosphere.
It's very nicely decorated and the dim lighting adds a nice romantic
touch. The food was average... and the waiters weren't exactly
the friendliest, but it was a wonderful experience.

This restaurant gets "5 Stars" not because it serves the best
Thai food I've ever had, but because of the overall experience.
The atmosphere (including the decor and the outfitting) at Khan
Toke is incredible! You do have to take off your shoes and sit on
the floor, but that's what intrigued me into going here in the
first place. The food is good -- 3 to 4 stars, depending upon what
you get, and the menu offers some interesting (and quite tasty)
dishes. I've never tried a "bad" plate, and I've never hesitated
going back for more. I've also never had to wait more than a few
minutes to get in, and I have always found the service to be quite
good in every respect. If you only go to one restaurant while you're
in town, I'd honestly have to recommend this one.

True..the food may not be the best Thai in the bay area, but the
atmosphere is what you are paying for. How much more can you be
in Thailand without leaving SF? The servings are a little small
and if you get really spicy dishes they seem to be a little bland.
I can not remember the name of the dish, but it was fried noodles
wrapped around prawns with a sweet and sour like sauce over it...delicious!!!
Although the servings are small you seem to get fool on appetizers
and Thai Ice Tea but don't foget to save room for their fried banana
with honey.

At best - visit once and only once. The nice decor and novelty of sitting on the floor didn't make up for the okay food and rude waiters. If not for a couple of good laughs at the expense of the "shoe Nazi" this would have been a completely unpleasant dining experience.Considering I may have caught them on a bad day, twice, I'm giving Khan Toke 2 stars.

The ambience (particularly the decor) is excellent. The food
was just above average (probably 3.5 stars) - you could
find better Thai food elsewhere. And yes, the waiters were
kind of rude. But its certainly worth visiting atleast once.

The escalation of my love for public libraries came out of my first
experience here, nearly 20 years ago. I called the SF Public Library,
asked for the reference desk, and asked "What's the best Thai
restaurant in SF?" The librarian responded without hesitation, Khan
Toke, and there we were, 8 of us, seated on the floor with our shoes
off. The reviews above have spotlighted just about everything; I'll
just add that in SF, Khan Toke is probably the most elegant dining
experience you can have for the least amount of money.

Don't believe the hype!!!!
I went to this place because it was rated "Best in the Bay" and
I was very disappointed. Granted the atmosphere is awesome,
better than any thai restaurant i have been to, but I came there
expecting to taste 5 star thai food and felt that I could do
better in my own kitchen (and I'm not that good). I personally
think Chau Praya in Belmont is better, and that is not
rated 4 star.
The food is not bad. But it isn't incredible either. And I hope
you like to sit cross legged at the table cuz you will be.

Delicious Thai food. Atmosphere is wonderful. Restaurant doesn't
look like much from the outside, but is really, really nice on the
inside. Sitting on the "floor" barefoot is a nice touch. I was
warned ahead of time that the waiters were rude, and they were! But,
it was still really delicious food at a great price.
