Toshi Sushi is good, but certainly not the best Sushi Restuarant
I've been to. It's close to me (within walking distance
from my home) so that's why it's my Sushi of choice.
The quality is good but not super. The prices are epensive (like
most sushi) but not overly expensive. The decor, as everyone
says, is excellent.
The one thing I must object to are the portions. Toshi Sushi's
portions are simply too small - so you have to order more. It's
tasty to do so, but can make your wallet hurt in the end.
I'm looking for other places in the Bay Area that may be better.

One of the best Japanese Restaurants in the Bay Area. Th "box
lunches" are wonderful and very reasonable. Toshi designed and built
most all of the gorgeous interior, which, like the food they serve, is
truly traditional Japanese faire. All the sushi chegs are imported
from Japan with a minimum of seven years training. It shows.

Small restaurant in the Monclair area. Sushi was very
good - well flavored and fresh. A warning - because
the sushi was authentic, some diners may feel the pieces
are "small". The new "discount" sushi places you see
popping up have giant pieces of sushi, not what you would
find in Japan, and quality of the fish is lower. I
prefer Toshi Sushi's approach.
There are a great variety of non-sushi dishes, many of which you
do not see in larger restaurants, which I find a great
feature. The non-sushi dishes were priced higher than
restaurants in Berkeley - the upscale neighborhood seems to
support a higher pricing structure here.
Service was excellent - water and tea were constantly
refilled, waiter checked in with us at least three times,
which is impressive.
Lastly - check out the decor - very understated and there
is a huge temple lantern right suspended over the doorway
which is the largest I have seen outside Japan.
