We went in 2000. It was so memorable. What an experience. The Chef at
the time was a "Iron Chef" winner. We believe Charles to
be closed or moved.

The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that we had dinner at a better
place during our visit. Specials were all wonderful, and the fish was
just perfect. Desserts were okay, and not the caliber of the entrees.
Wine list is well thought out, and the atmosphere is just spectacular.
Highly recommended.

The prices
are up there but well worth it if you ask me. We had the tasting menu
and each course was even better than the previous one. The Sonoma
lamb was the best of all.

One of the best in S.F. Excellent service. The food was awesome. The
amuse was a lobster custard served in an eggshell..It was so delicious.
The best thing I've ever eaten. The prices are up there but well
worth it if you ask me.

The dinner that we most recently enjoyed at Charles Nob Hill was actually
unbelievable. The six-course tasting menu ($70) as presented by executive
chef Melissa Perello, coupled with the sommelier recommended wine
paring ($45) was exquisite; beautiful in design and execution. The
combination of flavors, textures and tastes caused even the most experienced
among our party of five (an actual live food critic) to stop and savor
each course with seeming wide-eyed glee.

We had a wonderful eating experience at Charles. The food was
excellent. We ordered the chef's special; a mix of about
8 or 9
courses including a couple of surprise courses. One
of our favorite courses included some lamb which was prepared
about
as good as it gets. The total dinner, with two glasses of Merlot,
a
lemon seltzer and coffe was $200. A bit pricey, but accepted due
to
the professionalism of the experience. I will return again.

Located in a rather nondescript upscale apartment building,
Charles of Nob Hill is an incredible restaurant. I've been
there 4 times and have always enjoyed the tasting menu. The food
and the service have always been top notch. The former chef (Ron
Siegel) was well-known for appearing on Iron Chef (and beating
Iron Chef Sakai in the lobster battle!). Melissa Perello, Siegel's
sous chef has taken over the reigns without missing a beat. Melissa
was named one of the top up-and-comers in the (2003?) James Beard
Awards. My only minor criticism is the prices. While I expect
the food prices to be high for a 4 star restaurant, the wine prices
are pretty steep. If I recall correctly, the wine prices started
in the $80/bottle range and quickly escalated. Nevertheless,
Charles of Nob Hill remains my favorite San Francisco Restaurant.
