Dined at Moose’s last evening. Moose’s is located right on Washington
Square in North Beach, so parking is a nightmare. Valet parking
is available for $9 for three hours, with a $3/hr charge beyond
that time. We were seated immediately on arriving approximately
10 minutes early for our 7:00 reservation. The restaurant was
reasonably busy for a summer Tuesday evening with better than
two thirds of the tables filled. The dining room is pleasantly
appointed, with an open kitchen at the far end of the room, and
a satisfactory noise level making dinner conversation quite
easy.
Moose’s boasts a reasonably extensive wine list, with very good
regional, varietal, and pricing diversity. Wine markup is about
average, and corkage is a reasonable $15.00.
What drew us to Moose’s on a Tuesday evening was the fantastic
deal offered right now Monday through Wednesday. Moose’s is
celebrating their 10-year anniversary by offering a three-course
prix f ...

Excellent food with creative appetizers and entrees. Since
the menu changes daily, - I mean they
put out a new menu every single day!
I'm sure that some of it stays the same. They say that the chef buys
only what is in season.
The salmon at a recent visit was probably the best we've ever had
-- great grilled flavor, delicious flaky and seared just right
- tons of flavor.
It was served with ratatouille, and a fresh heirloom tomato sauce
which was very tasty and complimentary.
I started with ricotta stuffed squash blossoms, that had arugula
croutons and cherry tomatoes. You could tell that the tomatoes,
in fact, all of the veggies were full of ripe flavor. Definitely
not greenhouse veggies the way some restaurants give you. Another
dish was very juicy halibut with served on top of a crabmeat tart.
-WoW- this was really good - we switched plates several times.
Since halibut can be dry if even slightly overcooked, the chef
showed that he really knows h ...

I had dinner there recently. The service is attentive without
being
obtrusive. The food was great. I had the venison which was
excellent! And dessert was perfect. Plus I had a table by
the window. They could improve on their wine list. They offer
valet parking which I did not have to use since I was lucky enough
find parking nearby, but this is good to know since parking is
difficult there. Overall a good experience and I would not mind
going there again...

Excellent food. Innovative, but pricey and short, wine list.
Friendly, attentive service. Huge servings, which is unusual
in 'trendy' restaurants. Pleasant setting overlooking the
square and Columbus Ave. My one complaint was that the wine list
had virtually no less expensive (less than $30) choices, but
the wines on the list were very good and the markup seemed normal.
This place is expensive (well over $200 for four people), but
not outrageously so considering the location and quality. We'll
definitely go back again. BTW, if they have the duck risotto
on the menu when you go...it's fabulous!

The two times I've eaten here has been for Sunday Brunch,
and it was a very pleasant experience. The front windows
overlooking Washington Square is the place to sit to
enjoy a very well prepared and delicious selection of items
on the menu. Service was friendly and attentive making the
brunch most enjoyable.

The resturant "Moose's", is considered by some to be one of the finest
places to dine here in San Francisco. This will be based on what you
may require to complete your dining experience. Is atmosphere important
to you? If so, "Moose's" has plenty of that. Is sharing your eating space
with the "well to do" important to you? There is also plenty of this.
The menu changes from time to time and the food is your "California Style"
cusine. It ranges from pastas to steaks, but all prepared with the cutting
edge in uses of sauces and fruits to complement the flavors.
I may have a somewhat bias view of this resturant, for I am friends with a
former kitchen worker and I know this place is great if you are willing to
look past the decor and go just for the food!
