As upscale as upscale gets in Dallas.
The food here is wonderfull and the service is top notch for sure. I was a little taken with the overdoing it a bit. It almost felt like the wait staff was trying to herd you in and out like cattle. Not the family get togethr for a long meal of passing stories. I think we were even asked to keep it down once.
I had the Filet which was good but I have had better at a few hole in the wall outfits. Opted out on desert but the complimentary Truffle was pretty good.
If you are going out to impress then go ahead. If you are going to paint the town Pass.

Even if the ultra chic style and all-too-pretty people aren't your thing, the food should be. Abacus has an eclectic menu with an interesting mix of Asian (including a sushi menu) and New American dishes. It's noisy and service is often lacking, but the dishes often excel.
Take for instance their dessert "Jungle Fever". It came with coconut tempura bananas, crispy coconut ice cream, and pineapple caramel sauce. Yum. There's only one other place, a Thai restaurant in Eugene, Oregon, where I've had tempura bananas I truly loved, and this place easily exceeded those. The bananas had a light, very crisp shell around them with the fried coconut shavings making the bananas look like some sort of spiny tropical fruit. They were ultra creamy inside and the texture contrast was fabulous. The coconut ice cream was really good, but what made it special was the crispiness that came from honey-coated puffed rice. The sauce was excellent as well and made everything better.
Abacus also does a very good job with meats, adequately seasoning and searing the exterior giving the cut flavor, but leaving the inside cooked perfectly, tender and juicy.
Dishes do come up short here and there, but you're more likely to get something good than you are to get something okay. One problem, for me, is that their menu seems to be changing less and less over time.

My boyfriend took me to Abacus for Valentine's day. I figured it would be crowed, but it wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the small restaurant. It was very quaint, but posh at the same time. We did the chef's tasting, which I would certainly recommend. We got to try a little bit of everything. He paid, so I'm not sure how much the bill was. But it was wonderful all around. I'm always up for trying something new and the dishes they had certainly were unique. My boyfriend, who is a chef himself, absolutely loved it. We will certainly go back again.

One of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful restaurant in the city. Chef Kent Rathbun and his team do a superb job of balancing an eclectic menu with a incredible flair for flavor. You must try the John Dory fish, a rarely seen fish in the United States with a wonderful white flaky texture and mild flavor. Desserts are a surprising treat with a dash of the unusual. The sorgham corn pudding is a delight and the chocolate truffles are the perfect ending to a perfect dining experience.
