This place keeps changing hands and they just bought the taqueria, La Iguana Feliz, next door. Most times, the food is better than average since it caters to mostly Mexicans. There's parking in the rear, btw, something I didn't discover for a while, unfortunately. I hope they don't ruin La Iguana Feliz, a truly good taqueria.

Excellent Mexican food awaits those who aren't scared off by the bars over this restaurant's windows. It's not really a bad part of town, but I guess the proprietors want to play it safe, anyway. The food here is definitely above average, much better than you'd find at ubiquitous chains like Chevy's. Fresh, hot tortilla chips come to your table with salsa (be forewarned, it's fairly spicy but has a great flavor). The guacamole is pretty good, not prepared tableside like I prefer, but obviously still fresh. As far as entrees go, I can recommend the enchiladas (particularly the cheese). Go for a side of black beans over refried - they're healthier and, in my opinion, taste better. Combination platters are also quite good, particularly a taco/burrito with your choice of fillings (for authenticity choose the shredded beef). I highly recommend El Sombrero!
