the prix fixe's now $59 per person w/o wine n' (i think) $79 per person w/ wine. last nite's prix fixe included a wonderfully done split pea soup, a asian.fusion style grouper w/ daikon sprouts n' tobiko "caviar, " a bacon wrapped medallion of beef w/ some kind'f cute, fried potato, n' a pear cornucopia'f veggies, a gruyere cheese mixed greens salad, n' a grand marniere souflée. it was great! i gotta say: the portions in san josé restaurants r much bigger than portions in san francisco restaurants. altho' san jo is hardly a suburb nemore w/ its downtown nitelife n' "new urbanist" communities, i think the co$t'f living's still a li'l less, so we maybe cling on to the suburban ideas'f quantity in cuisine; altho' we don't have a claim jumper here or nething.

<br> w/ our wine we had this montelena riesling, which was very good... altho' it cmed to me that the waiter didn't like my choice. *shrug* maybe he just wanted me to pick a pricier wine. :-/ (as well as evian h2o v. santa clara valley water district h2o...) hey, u know? what's good's good.

Emile's is worth every penny. The place is flawless. There is

valet parking which is nice. They served Escolar an unusual fish

that is unbelievably good and most people have not even heard of it. The soups and salads were perfect and the entrees just sing. We never did have room for dessert and the wine by the glass prices are laughably low. If you haven't been to this San Jose Landmark, it is time to try it.

Well, the prixe fixe has gotten a bit more expensive these days. $75 w/o wine and $100 with wine. That being said, I went for it and ordered the tasting menu with wines. The food was phenomenal and the wines were well matched. 7 courses in all. The only downside is I ate so much I had trouble sleeping afterwards! Highly recommended for a special occasion. If you are going more often, I would recommend ordering a la carte or sharing the tasting menu. It's a lot of food.

Excellent food! We ordered the "Prix Fixe" dinner. For $36 per person, you get to choose one item each of the three categories: starters, entrees, and desserts.
Starters: - Roasted Chicken Cannelloni - Grilled Pollenta - Rosettes of House Cured Gravlax - Five Onion Soup - Fresh Specialty Soup of the Day - Salad Melee
Entrees: - Filet of Beef Neptune - Grilled Duck Breast Spiedini - Seafood Vol-au-vent - Emincee Veal
Desserts: - Grand Marnier of Capuccino Souffle - Almond Tuille with Vanilla Ice Cream - Warm Apple Tart with Caramel Sauce
We ordered the Roasted Chicken Cannelloni for starter, the veal and seafood for entree, and ice cream and apple tart for dessert. All excellent.

Emile's is our favorite special occasion place. It is wonderful French/continental cuisine without any pretense or stuffiness that you sometimes find in fancy French restaurants. The menu changes frequently and they also offer special dining nights where they feature a winery and create a menu around the wines that will be featured. We especially enjoy having rack of lamb or steak, and have enjoyed some wonderful seafood appetizers such as sauteed prawns with puff pastry and an incredible sauce or smoked salmon with goat cheese and fruit salsa. The dessert specialty is grand marnier souffle, which you must order when you are ordering the rest of your meal since it takes awhile to cook. I am not a huge souffle fan, but I do enjoy these souffles, especially the vanilla/grand marnier sauce that tops it. His chocolate creations and apple tarts are sensational. Expect to spend about $35 -$60 per person without wine, service or tax. Many times a prix fixe menu is offered at about $35-$45 per person that includes appetizer, entree and dessert. These are generally a great deal.
