This is not an American restaurant so much as a steak house. It offers exceptionally good steak and a fantastic wine list and attached wine shop. It is one of the few places in the city where you can buy some limited distribution upscale wines, either with dinner or separately. The first time I dined there, I ordered a glass of their house red wine which is a California red. The bouquet was like an ice pick to the forehead; you could tell it was a cork failure from the second it was brought into the room. Luckily they took it back and I ordered something else. They have some very nice California reds including an excellent Far Niente cabarnet which perfects any steak and seems to have mildly hallucinogenic properties. The portions are generous and the quality of the meat and side dishes are very good. The chef is very good and knows how to serve steak. You can order a filet mignon blue and have it actually served blue: warm all the way through but not excessively seared or overcooked in any way. There are not many menu options, and the place is definitely set up for carnivores so this is not the right place to bring a vegetarian. The wine list, however, is several sheets long. The prices are high. If you order an appetizer or dessert and also wine, do not expect to get out of there for less than $40 a head... more if you order the Far Niente but it's worth it.

Kinda pricey, but hey, the food is worth it, in my humble opinion. You can't beat the view, and they have a superb wine list.

In my estimation, a life-long steak lover...only the exclusive Rancherīs Club in the Hilton on University beats the Great American Land & Cattle Restaurant...which in turn barely nudges out Stewart Andersonīs Black Angus, which has the lower prices. All have very nice, but different ambiance...the view from the Great American is a plus, and my four times there have all been very pleasant experiences, except for my Visa...but that is true of all three mentioned above. You "usually" do get what you pay for afterall!

American food like ribs and steaks are the prime dishes here. I just love their grill section. So much live entertainment from the open kitchen.

I think this is one of the best places in town, but you have to be willing to spend the money. It is a little overpriced, but I think well worth it. If you like beef and seafood, this is definitely the place!

This is one of the greatest overall restaraunt in New Mexico. Do not leave here without experiencing this place. The atmosphere with the view is unbelievable, the service is magnificent, and the food (by food I mean steaks since that is all I eat) is out of this world.

Great American Land & Cattle is a superb restaurant. The proportions are very generous and the steak is so tender it practically melts in your mouth. The prices are high, the quality of food is worth it.

GRREEAATTTT! The food was awsome. If you have a big appetite and want some meat, this is the place. The 2 lb. T-bone was cooked to my liking and was very tasteful. Wife unit had the tenderloin which just melted in her mouth. If you have a small appetite, be prepared to take a baggy home. You can also purchase an extra plate for your spouse or significant other and share one meal.
Be prepared to pay though, with appetizers, dinner, dessert and drinks, probably around $100.00. Ask to be seated upstairs for the view of the city and mountains. Highly suggested to make reservations.

Great American Land & Cattle is a superb restaurant. The proportions are very generous and the steak is so tender it practically melts in your mouth. The prices are high, but in my estimation the quality of food is worth it. This is not the place to eat if you want rabbit food, but if you are a carnivore egt ready for the feast of your life!
