Sorry, but they just don't know how to flavor their chili here. New Mexican food needs more flavor. It's bland, it's hot but bland. And whatever happened to refried beans????? Other than that the food is good.

Two words...Juevos Rancheros! The best place besides my grandma's, and nothing seems to change that! They are kind of a local favorite, though, and you won't be able to even get in the door, especially on saturday mornings, so plan ahead!

Barela's is one of those "best kept secret" places. The food is great. Their specialty is breakfast. I haven't ordered anything I wasn't happy with.

Barelas may look like a set in search of a script, but it's the real deal: diners come from all over the city to sup in this old-fashioned chile parlor in the Hispanic Historic Route 66 neighborhood south of downtown. You may notice looks of quiet contentment on the faces of the many dedicated chile eaters as they dive into their bowls of Barelas's potent red. Reservations not accepted. D, MC, V. Closed Sun. No dinner

Divey. Good, spicy breakfast burritos. Good chile. Good portions. Service is pretty good. Parking is horrible.
