good for lunch - never tried to dine seriously here - not when the
highlawn pavillion's only a stones thrown downhill - but
if you want something decent, pal's works

I remember Pals Cabin from my childhood--when the shopping center
across the street was known as "Korvette City." It's
interesting to note how the menu and prices(!) have changed over
the years.
I dine at Pals mainly for nostalgic reasons; there are few remarkable
dishes here. One that I do recommend, however, is the mushroom
soup.

Pal's Cabin has been in West Orange for a long long time, and since
I've lived here for nearly 20 years, I've had occasion to eat there
several times. It's more than a diner - There's a little bit more
of a restaurant feel to it, which I like. The service is good, the
staff is friendly. It's a great all-purpose place if you're with
a group of people who all want different things. Onion rings,
hamburgers, turkey platter - all of these come to mind as things
I've enjoyed there recently. Price-wise, you can keep to a budget
if you'd like to, or splurge a bit. All in all, a nice place to go
for good food.

I have enjoyed the food here, from the hamburgers to the Norwegian
salmon, every time I've visited Pals. And the upstairs restaurant
is my favorite place to sit because of all windows and the activity
outside the restaurant. The wait staff is very friendly, and
you're always treated like a regular.

I first had Pal's food at a Thomas Edison labs charity event and
enjoyed their chowder there. It is a nice family "diner" type
play with windows and waitresses that understand kids.

I know that this place is a regional landmark, but I have never
understood what all the fuss is about. The place always looks
dirty to me, and when you sit in the room with the booths, you constantly
feel "sea sick" from the vibrations (I can't figure out if the
restaurant rattles from the outside traffic). If you are lucky
the food is not offensive; if you are not lucky, well....
I know that my views are not shared by many long time Essex County
residents. Pals has a reputation for serving great hamburgers
and great hot turkey sandwiches. Again, the food is lost on me.
