. A tribute to this establishment is the wait staff that have been loyal to their customers for over 20 years!!! The kitchen is small and so is the rest of the restaurant... I guess that's why the food is always fresh and prepared just right for me, as well as other friends that I have brought there. There's a wait on weekends, but I've found out that the staff remembers their friends and waits are shortened, as they should be

We enjoyed the lunch in February 2005. Delicious food. Please reserve the Table for 10 people at 12:00 Noon for Lunchon Monday April 18th, 2005.
Please also arrange one special lunch for me as I am a vegetarian. Big Salad Plate is ok. i.e. lettuce, tamatos, carrot, olive, avocado, spinach, celary, cheese, onion, cucumber, baby corn, grapes, whatever vege you can put together will be ok! You made it for me in early February.
Thanks,
Niranjan R. Doshi, P.E. I used to work at Don Pepe. I have never worked so hard and spent so much time tending to customers as I have working at Don Pepes. The food is outstanding. Im from Spain and have been there many of times, the taste and portion size is very accurate. Also, there is nothing Portuegese about Don Pepe. The food is all genuine spanish dishes and so are both of the owners, Benito and Pepe. I think people get thrown off by the portuegese waiters that work their. IF that was the case, step into the kitchen and most of the cooks are mexican, so shouldn't it be Mexican food too? No!.. I worked at Don Pepes for 2 years and other various restaurants for another 2 years. The quality of the food, service, and portion size at Don Pepes is the best NJ has to offer. I highly advise you to go there for the experience of fine cuisine, if you tried any better Spanish Food it was probably in Spain.
by the way, Do not go to Iberia or any other spanish restaura ... more

Great food but service is not consistant. Count on leftovers as portions are very generous.

Quantity and quality in one place. Come with a big appetite, and still expect to take some home with you. The service is fast and friendly.

Fantastic paella, zesty gazpacho, ample portions. I brought the leftover paella to my family to try. My parents couldn't believe the size of the portion or the amount of seafood in it -- and that was only the leftovers. I also liked the interior decor with its trompe l'oeil murals. The restaurant is spacious and popular; parking, however, is quite cramped. This is definately one of the best Portugese restaurants I've eaten at.

Easily one of the top five restaurants in Northern New Jersey, this Portuguese Restaurant is owned by the same family as Spain Restaurant and Bar on Market Street. Like Spain, it's famous for it's appetizers. Among them, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Portuguese Sausage. Portuguese, Spanish and American food with lots of stuff in garlic sauce. Be forewarned that with a few appetizers, a few drinks (or a pitcher of Sangria), and a dessert, the tab can add up quickly.

LOTS of great Spanish food. It just keeps coming! Really delicious. Big resturant with lots of small rooms so it never seems to overwhelm you. Recommended!!
