The Cantina is a four location chain, with other locations in
Mill Valley, Oakland, and Walnut Creek. I have eaten at all the
locations except Mill Valley, and generally consider them to
make tasty and mostly consistent upscale Mexican fare. The interior
architecture in all their locations is very unique, with high
ceilings, lots of exposed woodwork and beams, and traditional
Mexican tile floors, that sets the mood for a fun dining experience.
While not particularly Mexican in feel, yet still eclectic and
definitely not that "chain" feel. They have a full bar, and pride
themselves on quality Margaritas and other potent alcohol concoctions.
The food is pretty solid, with most dishes having a little more
flare than your typical Mexican joint. I like it that they offer
the option of black beans instead of just refried. The Santa Rosa
location is large compared to the other locations, and has both
indoor and outdoor seating, which looks out to the central downtown
Santa Rosa plaza. On weekends this place can be really busy. The
service has ranged from being OK to very good.
