This restaurant not only has horrible service, but they also
rip you off..I'll never forget how rude the manager was..the
bottom line is that they don't care about their customers..I
have never experienced that treatment anywhere before in my
life..People should be aware that they don't post prices on their
little sushi menu, so they totally overcharge people and people
don't even know it!! There are many good japanese restaurants
that have really fresh fish and don't have to add a lot of avocado
to their fish to cover it up like Okazu-ya does..I have vowed never
ever to step foot into this restaurant again..I would rather
go somewhere a little farther and get better food and service..I
think it's a shame that one of the reviews said that she doesn't
"expect too much" from an asian restaurant and that is sad that
she has such low standards..People deserve to get their money's
worth and good treatment and there are plenty of other good japanese
restaurants that will give ...

I browsed through many of the other reviews and have to say, I was
shocked! I love this restaurant!!! True, waiting at this restaurant
could be a bit excessive and the customer service could be improved.
I'm not sure if its because I am Asian American, but I usually do
not expect too much from Asian American restaurants.
And for the sushi that everybody was complaining about..if you
like fresh fresh sushi check out Yummy Fish Market/Sushi Bar
on Irving and 23 or 24. Its a small fish market that sells sushi
to go on the side...how more fresh can you ask? But going back to
Okazu-Yu Taraval..next time try ordering the Sea Bass. Its grilled
on a black iron with bean sprouts and some sauce...yummy!!!

I visited this restaurant a couple times and after reading some
of the reviews here, I also want to emphasize, What's up with the
sushi menu?! There aren't any prices on it. They charged me different
prices on the same rolls on 2 different visits. And when I asked
the manager for the break-down of the bill, he rudely said it was
just a simple miscalculation. After our confrontation, other
customers next to us also noticed the same errors on their bills.
Are they trying to rip us off or what?!!

The food is average. Expect a long wait (about 45 minutes to 1 hour)
especially for take outs. The restaurant always miscalculate
the bills and would take the wrong order (they do not post prices
on their sushi menu). Customer service is very poor and they would
refuse to cancel or change orders. This might be the only Japanese
restaurant in the area, but go somewhere else if you want to get
your money's worth.

This restaurant could learn a few things. I don't know where all
these people below are coming from, giving them positive reviews.
Must be all family members. The attitude of their servers is undeniably
rude. The service is slow. And I never ever waited 15 mintues to
get some tea, that is, until now. I mean I could name a ton of better
sushi places, especially on the East Bay. Kirala and SushiKo
in Berkeley are fine establishments. The best is Uzen on College
Ave. Now that's fresh sushi.

I had just moved to the neighborhood and was trying out this restaurant.
I ordered 4 takeout sushi items. When I got the bill, I thought
Wow, that's really kinda expensive so I asked the female ordertaker
to break down the prices for me. It's funny Cuz she certainly added
up my order quickly, but when she tried to break down my bill, knowing
I would compare it to the prices on the menu, she hesitated and
admitted that she did overcharge me by THREE DOLLARS!!!! I was
miffed cuz she didn't apologize and was frankly rude about it.
So I am boycotting this place cuz their service and attitude suck.

The service in this restaurant SUCKED so bad. I went there to get
take out right when it opened at 12 and I waited a whole HOUR to get
my food. I got no service whatsoever and people that ordered 10
minutes after me, got all their food on the table. When I questioned
the woman about my order, she was rude and said that they served
people eating there first. That defies the whole purpose of take
out doesn't it? After waiting there for 40 minutes, she said my
order was only "halfway done." When I said that I just wanted my
money back and to cancel the order, since they obviously weren't
preparing it, they flat out refused! I ended up getting my food
after waiting an hour with no service.
Also, they don't post any prices on the sushi menu, so they rip
you off there too cuz you don't know what they charge each time.
I will NEVER go back there again and I recommend that nobody go
there. There are plenty of excellent japanese restaurants around
with a hell of a lot better s ...

This is probably one of my top 3 favorite sushi restaurants in
the bay area...been going here for many years, even before they
moved several storefronts down from their original, very small
location on Taraval. Michael (the owner), his wife and staff
are very friendly and remember their repeat customers. The new
renovated restaurant is nicer than before but it's also become
extremely popular so the wait can get pretty ugly on weekends.
I try to always go early on weekdays and sit at the sushi bar. Favorites
are the sashimi combo dinners and the chilean sea bass. Prices
are extremely reasonable and the quality always great. Their
sister locations (Noriega and Clement) are less crowded and
a good alternative, esp. the one on Noriega. I've long maintained
that Okazu-ya is one of the best Japanese restaurants in San Francisco
and it's wonderful to see that Michael's restaurant is doing
so well.

This really is my favorite restaurant in the city. Service can
vary depending on how your server is, but the food always make
up for it. Very creative sushi, and always fresh. I love their
stir fry clams, I finish the whole pot all by myself sometimes.
You would be in heaven is you like fish. They have about 30 different
varieties of fish from sea bass to shark, usually serve fajita
style on a hot plate with vegetables and rice. Their lunch deals
are very inexepnsive and great.
But do be prepare to wait if you plan to have dinner, there are usually
a wait. The wait isn't too bad now that they have expanded a restauant.
I still remember going there and wait for a long time when they
use to only have about 10 tables all together.
Now this is a place that any Japanese food lovers should try and
believe me, it's worth the wait!
