Recent lunch at Bruce's revealed that this on-the-street "deli"
has not slipped a bit from my last visit. The potato-leek soup
was excellent, other lunch specials were satisfying.
Two comments - the service staff at Bruce's is less than experienced,
service takes a long time and not always what was ordered (2 errors
among 8 customers I observed). Although they seem to have local
Long Island wines, they are not promoted at all - I would recommend
a separate wine list (there's good $$ in this, guys). I ordered
a local Merlot and was told they were out of "RED" wine (the service
staff again). My guess is that Bruce's tends to get easily overwhelmed
by a busy day crowd and could use some additional service help.
In spite of all these comments, the food is top-notch, the atmosphere
is almost European (including the service !) and the experience
and value is worth the wait.

If you ever find yourself hungry in Greenport, Bruce's for breakfast or lunch
cannot be beat. Super sandwiches, salads, pitas and baked goods are all great.
Limited outdoor seating (3 tables, I think) let you watch the crowds go by
in the summer. Full choice of beers (including local microbrews) and local
wines.
Soups are a specialty so ask what's hot today !
Finish with a piece of carrot cake and a cappuccino to round off the afternoon.
