From the restaurant's website, http://www.shiokkitchen.com/ : "Food is the national passion of Singapore and "Shiok!" is the phrase most often heard uttered by a Singaporean when he or she has enjoyed a meal." I was definitely saying "Shiok!" after my meal, and for days afterward! This restaurant, in a beautiful, softly-lit, art filled setting, offers great service, a wide menu selection, and the most amazing, delicious food. It's hard not to order just about everything & stuff yourself--I'm afraid we did! Order a few different things and share. They have a dish called an oyster omelet which bears NO resemblance to something you'll find down at the Nasty Breakfast Nook. Afraid to try it? I used to be, too. Shiok! Pricey (some entrees can be 15-20+, but appetizer dishes are plentiful & much lower in price), but very special. GO... try it.

Shiok! (Singapore Kitchen) has moved to Chestnut Street in Menlo Park. Its a much bigger location and the menu has expanded. I went to the Laurel Street location and was told that their new location is off Santa Cruz Avenue in downtown Menlo Park.. Its definitely worth the trip there!!

This is a tiny little hole in the wall with 16 seats. However, once inside the walls are brightly colored and the service is quite good considering the tiny size. The food, of course, is the real attraction as it is extremely good. Not to mention, unique.

Shiok is not a glamorous destination, but it is one of the friendliest. My favorite dishes are the dinner seafood items including the chili prawns (sambal?) and the nonya fish (snapper with a tangy, not hot, sauce). And yes, the crab is worth planning in advance for. The price is right for high-quality, fresh food. The owner adjusts the menu each week so there is always something different. Send your email address to "shiokkitchen@yahoo.com" and she will send you the week's menu in advance.

This little jewel replaces P&P Hunan while still satisfying those hungry for something beyond generic Chinese food. The owner spent the last two months rebuilding the place and the result is warm, colorful and relaxed. And the food? Singaporean food is an eclectic mix of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences; kind of the California cuisine of southeast Asia. I recommend two noodle dishes: the Seafood Mee Goreng (Indian influenced noodles) and the Hokkien Mee (Chinese-style noodles). For a treat, give the owner a call a day in advance, and she will prepare Singapore Chili Crab which is too die for (don't forget to tell her you want bread for dipping in the sauce).
