Lived here all of my life, 67 yrs, so have been to Tao Tao a "few times". But I really want to say that the last nite we were there, our waiter looked as if we were doing him the favor by eating there and not at all attentive to our needs and just had this bored and smirkey look on his face. What gives? Is this a culture thing to act this way to guests? Will find another Chinese restaurant that is warm and want our $$$$.

It has been over 25 years since I have eaten at this restaurant, and I did many times. I still crave the Tao Tao beef, and especially the chinese chicken salad. It was a very nice place to eat "back in the day". I am searching for a similar receipe for that chicken salad, and came upon this site. Sad to hear all the bad reviews on it. I have wonderful memories of Tao Tao's. It was a "Special Occasion" place back in the 80's...

The place has been remodeled and looks nice and new. It was so shabby before. The wait staff are pleasent (which is also an improvement) and they must have a new chef because the food was very good. Try the walnut prawns, you will have a never ending craving for them!

I recently visited this place which has been remodeled about a year ago. It was getting pretty dingy and worn. They really opened up the place so the inside is quite bright. From the outside, it does not look like a chinese restaurant. The food has been off and on through the years. This time, it was pretty good. Everyone raves about the chinese chicken salad. Although it was tasty, I thought it was a bit on the salty side. The other dishes were good. <br>

As is common with other chinese restaurants, the place can get quite noisy when its crowded.

Atmosphere: Above average Crowd: Varies Dress: Casual Food: Above average Noise: Average Service: Average to above average
Comments: We went here today for lunch. They've remodeled and the atmosphere is quite nice, contemporary, and clean. The place was bustling with people (not too noisy, though). Our service today was okay. The service was relatively quick, though our drink refills took a while. The items were ready though minutes after we ordered (happily). We ordered a la carte: Yang Chow Fried Rice, Barbequed Pork Chow Mein, Cashew Chicken (all around $8), and Honey Walnut Prawns ($12). Everything was very good all around, though the chow mein lacked much flavor. The rice was quite good, cashew chicken good, and prawns EXCELLENT. I recommend Tao Tao for good Chinese food (in a clean atmosphere now) at a reasonable price.

Four of us went there for lunch today because it looked quite nice inside. However, the service was slow, the food was average, the worst was that two of us ordered chinese new year lunch special and we all got sick. Tina got dizzy and nauseous in the afternoon, threw up twice and hardly made it to home. I got nauseous and diarrhea. What a terrible experience on new year's day!

I like this place. We come in about 6 times year, and have found their food good. We tend to order the same things since we like them. I really do like their sweet and sour sauce. And I think their chicken salad is above average. The restaurant is nice since they remodeled, and we've always had prompt, curteous service. We'll continue to frequent this place, along with the gobs of other people in here. One thing I did notice over the years, that most of the clientel is not Chinese, but then, my tastes might run to the American side.

The negative reviews above are very surprising. We have eaten at Tao Tao's everytime we visit family in the area. Love the chicken salad. Have not encountered rude service. Do agree

though that the place could use remodeling. It seems to be a very popular place as we have always endured a wait even with a

reservation. I'm sure we will go there again and I will be a little more skeptical, paying stricter attention to the service

and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant AND will be on

the lookout for recycled ice and drinks!

We are regulars here and have found the food to be best on the weekend when the "old chef" is in the kitchen. The chicken salad is divine and addicting. However, the waiters can be somewhat aloof and the interior is horribly tired and worn (we were told it is to undergo a major facelift soon...) I recommend this restaurant as long as you aren't picky as to where and from whom your delicious food is served.

We have been going to Tao Tao for nearly 30 years and have seen a decline in the quality of their food. (Our favorite combination was the Chicken Salad, the Sweet and sour Pressed Duck and the Tao Tao Beef.) As a result of the decline in quality, we have not eaten there for some time. They once could boast of having the best Chinese Chicken Salad in the Bay area - but sadly, in our estimation, it is no longer the best. We have found other restaurants with good chicken salad, but nothing comparable to what Tao Tao used to be. Perhaps we should try them again.

Wow, what a surprise I had. I should have read the reviews before I returned to Tao-Tao's. I haven't eaten here in years and remember it as being quite good. I had lunch here this past week, just awful! The service was rude and slow. The food is limp, soggy, tasteless. I won't be back.

The negitive review from the few above are a surprise. I have been eating at the place for over 15 years and have not had a bad meal yet. It is true, the best chinese chicken salad in valley. THe people above that gave a negitive review work for fast food chinese restaurants in area.

Try a take out order of their chinese chicken salad, and figure out your sales tax. You will find they over charge in sales tax for no legal reason. They've been doing this for years! And I mean years! The food is consistently bad. This isn't real chinese food, people. If you don't know the difference, then eat here. Service is rude. Hostesses are equally and consistently wretched. THIS PLACE IS A ZERO STAR.

I've enjoyed this restaurant for over 18 years. The service and food is consistenly good. I was there for lunch today and the chicken salad and won ton soup were exceptional. A few weeks ago I had dinner and the Mai Tai's and Tao Tao Beef were delicious. This is my family's favorite restauaunt. The take out food is a special treat on busy days. I have certain out of town guests who make eating at Tao Tao a priority when they come in to town.

I can't believe any would eat here. My first (and last) experience yesterday at lunch was awful. Everyone said the Chinese Chicken salad was excellent -- it was so salty I couldn't eat it. A friend had the Tao Tao Beef, which was ok. The service was not just bad, it was downright rude. I'll never eat here again.

This restaurant SUCKS! don't believe what the other reviews say! the food is barely mediocre, the service is bad (they recycle drinks and ice!!!) and the atmosphere is not at all what you would expect from a restaurant. sorry, but 1 star was the lowest....

Must try it! This place has been around for a long time and you need to try the Chinese Chicken Salad and Sweet & Sour Pork. Make resevations or call to pick-up. It's worth it!!!
