Honestly I come to Volpi's more for the bar than the restaurant,
but don't read into that too much. I just prefer the old world atmosphere
of the bar to the other Petaluma watering holes. The bar is tucked in
the back of the restaurant with various game trophy heads around the
walls, dollar bills with business cards on the ceiling(just bring
a dollar and your business card and John Sr. can put yours up with the
others), and on Friday and Saturday nights the owners play the accordion.
The food is good an authentic.

The place is also a minimally stocked deli that also sells sandwiches
during lunch time. It's a minor part of the business, the money
maker is the giant size dinners.
Petaluma Landmark since the early 20th century. Decor & housekeeping
are still stuck in 1918. Gets NORCAL award for ugliest liquor bar. Peeling
lime-green walls covered with dusty old taxidermy animal heads and
katty-wampus dirty-greasy framed photos of old local sports teams.
Big tables with red checkered cloths. Funky chairs. Crappy porcelain
& glassware. A little old lady plays the accordion (poorly) for
the old Italian farts in the bar.
Restaurant is 3 rooms. You want to sit in the front dining room. We ate
in the "alcove" next to the bar. It should be renamed "The
Hovel", NOT recommended.
The food: BIG portions of fresh vegetables, fish, meats, and pasta.
This is Italian-Californian 1920's style cooking at its best.

I just love this restruant the food is fantastic, the ambiance
friendly. But the staff in great. They make you feel at home and
work hard to keep you happy and comming back for more. If you want
beauty and brightness while dinning then you must ask for Ginger.
She is the best! Tell her Jeff sent me.

P.S. she is the love of my life

An excellent choice for a family style italian meal. Symbolizesall of the good, old-charm that Petaluma has to offer. A family favorite.

Be wary of the menu where you can choose family style or a-la-cart. If
one guest orders the family style dinner and the other guest orders
a-la-cart, be prepared for the two of you paying the family style
price, especially if you share. This is not mentioned anywhere and
comes as a disappointing surprise by the less than friendly
wait-staff. The food is good for the value. Once was a regular, now a
boycotter.

Volpi's is an old favorite. The Prime Rib and Chicken Divola
are always at the top of my list, although all pastas, seafood
and meat dishes are very fresh and always perfectly cooked.
The service is very personal and the atmosphere is terrific
blend of old Petaluma and compliments the straightforward menu.
Be sure to go to the back bar after dinner for a generous
cocktail and Sylvia's famous accordion performances. I think
that Volpi's is so great overall that we had our rehearsal
dinner there and it was a huge success - out of town guests
loved it and locals knew they were in for a great evening.
Even living in the City, we go as much as we can. Order the
local Corda Vineyard wine and you won't go wrong. Enjoy!

I agree with Isaak's review entirely. Though the
speakeasy bar in back makes a great Bloody Mary.
