This restaurant closed several years ago! The space it occupied
(in the Pyramid) was taken over by Redwood Park. It closed last
month.

Vertigo has been closed for years now. I wish that someone would
properly manage this web site, as there are lots of old restaurants
that have been closed and new restaurants have popped up in the
same location. Vertigo has been replaced by Charles Condy's
Redwood Park.

It is a bit pricey and the menu is a bit limited, but the food is
good, well prepared, and well presented.
The service was outstanding--the young lady knew her business as
the waitress for a table of four celebrating an occasion and
wanting time to do it in a leisurely fashion.
The only off-putting feature is the name--no connotation of the
word "vertigo" applies.

had was a bit snotty.

I have been to Vertigo twice, and both times I've had wonderful
experiences. The decor is noveau art with the best seats in the
house on the second level overlooking the lower dining area/kitchen.
Looking up through the glass ceiling at the slanted side of the
Transamerica building, one realizes the appropriateness of the
name Vertigo. It is the one of the most elegant, yet fun,
restaurants in the city.
Vertigo's appetizers are creative, if not quite focused. Dishes
such as crab rolls in translucent rice wrappers and California roll,
revisited, are indicative of the Californian/Asian fusion bent of
the appetizers.
Vertigo's strong suit is the fish. Nowhere in the city have I had
better salmon, swordfish, and ahi. All of the fish I've tried have
been exemplary- moist, fresh, and cooked just right. Accompaniments
include heavenly mashed potatoes (salmon) and morels, leeks, and
spaetzle (swordfish). The only downside is that portions tend to
be small.
I have only had one dess ...

Wonderful ambiance. Beautiful warm colors and subtle piano
music. Well designed floor plan so the tables are not too
close together. Lots of table servers hustling around but no
one seemed to lose their composure all night. Excellent
wait staff and wine list. The owner took time to come to
our table and say hello and talk wine. I was a little
disappointed in other patrons being that they were dressed
VERY casually for a Saturday night SF "financial district"
dinner. The other let downs were the menu and presentation
of the food. The menu was the "trendy" grill style which is
becoming tiresome and redundant at a lot of SF restaurants
lately. The presentation was lackluster and
unimaginative. The shoestring potatos were burying the
venison hidden beneath and there was no color variety on
the plates. Overall we had a enjoyable experience and I
recommend Vertigo at least once!

We went for lunch, expecting the worst of the
business crowd! And though they were out in full force
the lunch itself was a delight.
The service was very attentive, the decor very po-mo
(post modern) and the food very much "pop cuisine"
being a combination of asian/seafood/californian.
The food was actually very good, with a recurring
theme of making each dish as TALL as possible (keeping
in with the "vertigo" theme).

Excellent food in a beautiful down town setting. Lot of
money spent on decor and it works very well.

The very location makes it kinda touristy, and I expected
it to be quite pretentious. Tho the patrons were older
(40s? average) and the service just so-so, I really liked
the funky decor, and the food was remarkably good!
Everyone in the group was quite pleased. I guess I
put a high emphasis on presentation as well as taste,
which is why I give Vertigo such a high rating; the
meals, especially the desserts, were all artfully arranged.
I've only eaten here once, so perhaps I was amazed when
it turned out much better than expected, but definitely
give it a try.
