Im not exactly an expert of german food however I found this place to
be pretty good. They had some really good black bread and this different
mustard stuff, some really good food your probably not used to. Highly
recommend if you want something new

Very nice authentic german restaurant and I bet the only place you can
get black bread instead of white and a very nice homemade horseradish
mustard. Great foods and beers, affordable. Cant say i would go there
very often and have not been to other local german restaurants, but
once in a few months it will make an excellent evening.

Hardy's was my favorite restaurant ever since I can remember (at
least 10 years). I've been going there for all my birthdays, celebrations,
ect; spending at least $80 for two people at dinner, and $25 takeout
for myself during my visits. The staff know my parents by name due to
their continual patronage also.
To my suprise, I WAS DENIED SERVICE today. When I first walked into the
restaurant I was ignored (there were 2 people sitting at the bar and
only two tables were occupied with customers). Finally after a few
minutes of just standing there while other customers were greeted
coming in after me, I was asked how I may be assisted. I stated I would
like to order food to go. After the woman shuffled around some papers,
she approached me and whispered that they do not do "To Go"
orders! I can't even begin to explain the shock after recommending
and bring a good amount of business to the establishment throughout
the years! I have never been denied servi ...

We frequently visit Hardy's for a nice evening of traditional
German fare. This is by far the best German food we have found in
the Bay Area. The Sausage Sampler is a great way to get started.
Lots of variety and great mustard. My all time favorite beer is
on the menu too! It's a dark wheat beer, "Hefeweiss
dunkel". Each entree comes with a small salad and cup of
soup. You can't go wrong with any of the main course dishes.
They are all prepared in a traditional German style. You can't
be in a hurry, though, as the restaurant is normally very busy
and they only have 2 servers.

For lunch, I had the ham shank that came with potatoes and sauerkraut,
and a neat beverage made with lemonade and pepsi. The shank was
very tender and when seasoned with the two provided mustards
(one sweetened with what looked like honey), was quite tasty.
The shank was not as large as what I've had at another German
restaurant in San Jose but I thought the quality was better. Not
a large restaurant but probably better that way since service
can be a bit slow, though they are friendly. Not in a hurry, this
can be your place.

We don't have many good german restaurants in the Sunnyvale
area and Hardy's is definitely good. The portions are not
too large, which is good, since the food is a bit on the heavy side.
The service is good and parking is easy since there is parking
next to the building. The prices are very reasonable.

Nice looking place, not very large. There were two very noisy
groups on a Thursday eve which made the atmosphere loud not cosy.
The decore was very nice and the restaurant looked very clean.
I had ham shank with sourkraut and potatoes. My companion had
veal with noodles. The dinner included cup of soup and a small
dinner salad. I ordered a liter of Octoberfest beer and my conpanion
had apple juice with seltzer. Both drinks were excellent. The
one common thing in both meals was that the soup and entree, as
served, were both luke warm, not hot which distracted greatly
from our enjoyment, even though the flavor of the food was good.
My entree was $13 and hers was about $15.
Having been to Teske restraurant in downtown SJ several times,
we both agreed that Teske was by far the superior one, but of course
much harder to get to during the week from this part of town.

There aren't a lot of German restaurants out there, especially
on the west coast, but this is one of the better ones I've been to.
The fare consists of huge portions of well-seasoned, expertly-cooked
meat. Not recommended for vegetarians. They also have a nice
selection of German beers. The decor is understated, and music
gives the place a nice ambience. The restaurant is a little hard
to find, because the sign has dark lettering on dark wood and hangs
above the door so you can't see it from the road.

The food was good, basic, German everyday cooking. Restaurant
is very clean and well lit. Service was great. Do NOT use the map
provided by the link above. You'll be lost forever. We tried calling
the restaurant for directions once we were lost, and even though
it turns out we were only 2 blocks away, they could not tell us how
to get there. They could only provide their address. Sigh. But
the food was good.
