I liked the old location better but the food has remained yummy and the family service is warm.

I saw mixed reviews about this place on this web site so I had to see formyself how this place tastes. When I went inside I found the service to bepretty good considering that there were some new workers in training. The food was rich in flavor. The dishes I had was spicy because Ihad ask for it. The host Mr. Suvid double checked on my spicy ordermaking sure I "know what Thai peppers are" because he said "some peoplethink they can eat spicy food and when it comes out spicy they can'teat it." I think that is great service because he is concerned aboutthe customers. The prices of the food is very resonable compared to most Thai restrauntsI've been to. I went to Tubtim with 2 other friends and my meal came out toabout $37 dollars because we also had a few drinks including a beer which is much cheaper that most Thai places because They only charge $2.50 a bottlewhere as most Thai restraunt charge you $3 - $4.50 per bottle.Correction on the rice, they do charge you $.75 person but it comes w ... more

After seeing the latest two reviews (10/7/96, 1/26/97), it was not without some trepidation that I paid a visit to Tubtim. Not only did my fears prove groundless, it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. But a few words of explanation are in order. Traditionally, food from countries having hot climates is quite "hot" (peppery), for the simple reason that, absent refrigeration, one needs something quite powerful to overwhelm the taste of rotten meat (possibly red pepper also acts as an effective maggot killer). Probably the more inventive chefs realized that one could take advantage of the heat to add a fairly heavy degree of additional spice so that the food was not merely rendered palatable but actually tasty. Today, in the era of refrigeration, the degree of heat formerly required is no longer necessary, except possibly for those individuals who use it as a means of demonstrating their gastronomical machismo. With that as prologue, let me offer three possible expla ... more

I tried it based on some of the earlier reviews. About the best comment I can make is that I'll never go back. I like very spicy/flavorful food, and always ask for extra "flavor." This was BLAND! Had I not asked for extra spicy and flavorful I shudder to think what I would have been served. It's a good place to avoid.

May be I was out of luck. May be the chef was in bad mood the day I visited. May be I was edxpecting too much... The food is just OK. The satay is overcooked. The curry is too sweet. It can't even compare to the Royal Thai several blocks away on the same street. I went on a Wednesday nite and happened to be the ONLY customer. A real good Thai place should be always crowded. Big disappointment.

I saw the reviews about this restaurant on this site so I had to go and try this place out. My friend and I tried the basic dishes: Chicken Satay Tom Kha Pak (Coconut milk soup) Pad Thai Green Curry Prawns and a special call "Spicy Duck" Every dish above pass the tast test with flying colors and the dishes were decorated nicely (but not too fancy). By the end of the meal we were stuffed. Although the "Spicy Duck" isn't really spicy is was full of taste! They had:Ice Cream( Mango and lycee *they were out of coconut), Mango and Sticky Rice for dessert. Because we were trying as much as we could be tried the Mango and Sticky Rice which was sweet and tasty. For drinks: My friend had a Thai Iced Coffee and I had the Thai Iced Tea. The food was awesome but No other Thai restaurant can match their Thai Iced Tea/Coffee. Downside: Parking Space! It took us 30+ minutes to find parking. The waiter told us that we can "park at the bus-stop 1/2 a block up from reataurant after 8:00pm" ... more

I went to this Thai restaurant because I had read about it on these pages. I have eaten Thai food from Boston and Manhattan to Dallas...and in between. I had to be in SF for several days and put it at the top of my list. The waiter (Suvid) was friendly and provided excellent suggestions. He was not intimidated by a little banter. And even though it was not Friday or Saturday, he and his sister played a few minutes on their traditional Thai instruments. Everyone loved it. I like my food extra hot and spicey and they did not hesitate to accommodate my tastes. My highest compliment: I'd return. I also highly recommend it to anyone who likes Thai food.

The food was good. The atmosphere is excellent. But the quantity of food was so LITTLE that 2 people should have about 3-4 dish to be full. We ordered some spicy duck but, they only gave us little bit of meat and lots of skin. It also has a live Thai music played by one of the family member. The servers were very nice and friendly.

The decor was very relaxing. The service was gracious and friendly. The two played music for us even though it wasn't on Fri or Sat. No complaints about the food, the size of helpings or the prices. Very reasonable. Plan to go there again.
