A long time fan! Some of the best soup and fresh bread ever! When in Exeter this stop is a must! Go early - line can get long - but it's worth it.

When I go home I always stop here to visit. The last visit they had pumpkin soup which was so damned good I ordered a quart of it to take home. The breads are excellent. Again so good I tried to order a loaf and realized I needed to order ahead of time and I was leaving the next day :( Very very good place to have a leisurely lunch.

Excellent food at great prices. This a self-service type restaurant (kinda reminded me of a soup kitchen). All the breads are homemade and awesome! The soups are great too!

Good soups. Can be crowded during usual dining hours. Prices are higher, portions tend to be smaller than average.

The Loaf and Ladle has been my favorite restaurant for soups and sandwiches for over 20 years. I first discovered it while a student at UNH, Durham. It has been a destination for me when I want the very best Cheddar cheese soup, or a bowl of their hot Chili. The prices are not expensive for what you get. And.. I can bring my Vegan son there to eat as well.

The soups are good. They have plenty of soups to choose from. The prices are kind of high. The surroundings are very nice for a causal evening meal. I did not particularly like to entertainment when I was there.
