This restaurant is typical of the family/privately-owned establishments
in the area. Bill's caters to the older customers who have been
regulars for years. The interior is well lit, the decor plain and the
furniture is functional and in good repair but old. The food is reliable
but nothing special - essentially Captain D's or Long John Silver's
level without the grease in a better environment. The service is average
but friendly. I had the regular seafood platter to give me a good sampling of different
kinds of tastes. The platter includes: popcorn shrimp, clam strips,
fish, stuffed crab, two sides and hushpuppies for $13.95. Side choices
are limited to: baked potato, coleslaw, French fries and apple sauce.
A salad is available as a substitution for $1.79 extra or ala carte for
$2.99. I will admit there was a lot of food. The shrimp was lightly battered and would have had a good taste if it
were not undercooked. The clam strips and the fish had a good taste but
again - just average. The stuffed crab was better than anything else
- it had a good taste and it was not greasy. I would have taken two of those
over any of the other entree choices. I had cole slaw which was ordinary
- your mom's (or Farm Fresh) is probably better. I also had a baked
potato which was done very well and served with plenty of sour cream.
The hush puppies are not traditional southern cornmeal-based hushpuppies.
They were lighter and had a good flavor but I am partial to the kind I grew
up with. Under what circumstances would I go back? If I had to take an older (60+)
person to dinner in a non-threatening environment where the choices
are limited so the decisions are easier. Also if someone is not adventuresome
and enjoys just ordinary seafood dining experiences – this is certainly
an option. Are there better seafood places in the area? Absolutely!
For the same price range the Poquoson Seafood and Steak House or Capt
Harrell’s has better food (choices and flavor) and atmosphere.
For a little more (entree price $17-25) Nick's Riverwalk Restaurant
on Yorktown Riverwalk Landing has better food, different flairs and
a great view of the York River. Bottom line: Nothing really makes this
place unique to go out of my way to give it another shot.
Is very important, this site, is cool. There are two locations and on any given night (excepting Sunday) one will have to stand in line before being seated (it would be advisable to get there early!)but it is well worth the 10 - 20 minute wait. One feels very much at home because of the friendly staff. Their entrees are prepared fresh and brought to your table steaming with a wait of no more than 10 minutes, and that's if they are very busy. All entrees are served with a basket of piping hot hushpuppies with butter and honey butter spreads. The portions of food are more than ample for anyone. Everyone I know that likes seafood said it's very good. A nice friendly, good service, great food
place to eat. I like the idea it is closed on Sundays, it gives their employees
a chance to attend church.

There are 2 Bill's Seafood and they are not related.. One on Warwick
Blvd & One at Denbigh blvd and Rt 17. The one at Rt 17 & Denbigh Blvd
is much better than the on on Warwick Blvd. That is the one I reviewed
and I gave it a 4 Star rating. I give the one on Warwick Blvd a 3 star
rating because the service is much slower and the folks are not
as friendly.

Bill's Seafood is a landmark on the Virginia Peninsula. There
are two locations and on any given night (excepting Sunday) one
will have to stand in line before being seated (it would be advisable
to get there early!)but it is well worth the 10 - 20 minute wait.

more than ample for anyone. More often than not you will request
a "doggie" bag.
I generally mix my entre with fried butterfly shrimp and sea scallops
then on my next visit the mix may be fried Flounder and oysters.
All entrees are cooked to perfection and your beveredge glass
will never be empty.
It's fun watching the bus boys/girls for they are always almost
on a dead run cleaning tables for the next guests. Bill's does
not accept credit cards but they will accept checks, so don't
bring your VISA card.
It is a genuine pleasure to dine at Bill's Seafood. I have never
left disatisfied or hungry. I highly reccomend any visitor to
the Hampton Roads Area to plan a visit to Bill's Seafood... you
won't be sorry you did!
