We were seated quickly since we were the second group to be seated. The service was good at first until our order was taken. We proceeded to watch 4 other parties sit down and be served before us. The sushi chief spent more time talking to one couple he knew at the sushi bar than making sushi. Of course they had no problem getting there food! We had one cooked meal that we saw sit at the sushi bar for 10+ minutes before we saw it at our table. We arrived at 5:50 and didn't leave till 7:10. There were only 2 of us with one hot roll and one sushi combo platter. The experience sucked. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you do happen to go there be sure you sit at the sushi bar so at least you'll have someone to talk to. The sushi chief is great with the BS. Good luck! less

This place is one of my favorite japanese restaurants. its hidden away and small. its actually next to another very delicious restaurant named china chili. mmm so good. the cooks at zipangu are so funny and even had a few shots of sake with us! me ... more

This place is one of my favorite japanese restaurants. its hidden away and small. its actually next to another very delicious restaurant named china chili. mmm so good. the cooks at zipangu are so funny and even had a few shots of sake with us! me and my husband go often. its our place. weve also met other couples there and the enviroment is very friendly. oh and take someone there for their birthday for a special suprise! less

I <know> I wrote a review of Zipangu, but it seems it didnt get posted. (oh, btw, I LOVE the new Dine.com format, excellent job people!!) Zipangu is a little teppan and sushi restaurant hidden waaay back in a little shopping center on the NE corner of Shaw and West. Thats right, the NE corner, because I went to all four of them looking for this restaurant the first time I went there (I happened to like their ad in the phone book and wanted to try it out). What an amazingly pleasant surprise, and a truly excellent dinner! I had a NY steak and shrimp at a teppan table, my wife had chicken and shrimp, and both were very very very good. Our teppan chef did an excellent job, and everything was of the highest quality. There is a newer Japanese restaurant up on Fort Washington that is almost as good, but is newer and more nicely decorated, and then there is Sushi Day, which we enjoy a lot, but Zipangu holds a special place for us as being our preferred teppan restaurant in Fresno. Highly recommended, but since there are only four teppan tables and the sushi bar is pretty small, reservations are a very good idea. Maybe it is a good thing they are so hidden away, now that I think about it. less
