Bar staff took care of their goombas though even though they came in after us. My parents have been going there since the 1950's but after this last visit, no more. less

A History: The restaurant, named for the oak trees that shade its pastoral grounds, has been operated as a family owned business for more than six decades. It had its start as a speakeasy in 1933 during the prohibition era and has made the transition from a small eatery with 60 seats to the current operation with 650 seats, 6 separate dining rooms, 3 bars and an outside patio bar. The restaurant is the largest independent operation in Rhode Island and rated number 44 within the United States as of 1995 and continues to deliver quality, consistancy, and value to it's customers. My Experience: In my 29 years of time on this earth, I have been to Twin Oaks on hundreds of occasions starting from the age of around 9 or 10. When I was a child my favorite dish on the kids menu was the Open Turkey (with all the fixins). As I have grown older and developed more sophisticated tastes, I have run the menu up and down, always looking for something new and exciting to try. To this day, my favorite meal (and a favorite for so many others) is the Baked Stuffed Shrimp dinner. It comes with 5 jumbo shrimp (I remember the days when they served seven, but the price of seafood has risen significantly within the last fifteen years), choice of salad and pasta, or potato and vegetable. If you go, try this... Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing, and Baked Stuffed Shrimp with the mashed potatoes in the middle (the mashed potatoes get all crusty from being baked in the oven ***delicious*** by the way, that's not even mentioned on the menu ... my own secret). The rest of the offerings are equally as good, delicious pork chops, real provimi veal, genuine black angus steak, saute lobster, the list goes on and on. As for appetizers, go for the Fried Calamari (squid). Don't be afraid, they're prepared and served with an amazing hot pepper style dip. Other appetizers are the usual favorites you find in most places and a few surprises are thrown in as well! As far as deserts, I've never been able to fit them, but I'm sure they're equally pleasing. For a dinner for two, you're looking between $40 and $60 depending on how crazy you get, or more if you order the Dom Perignon !!! Tell others what you think about Twin Oaks Restaurant less

I just went back yesterday after a dozen years away...the long wait just made me not want to go back. Yesterday I went at 3PM so of course there was no wait. I had the lobster plate which was delicious and unbelievably HUGE! They even gave me some homemade ravioli with it. I was sooooo stuffed but I had to eat it all as I was not going home right away and I didn't have a cooler. I couldn't let all that wonderful lobster go to some feral cat by the kitchen door and it was $19! Excellent dish and I'm going back for another one. Let's hope I don't have to wait because I won't go to any restaurant that can't seat me in 20 minutes tops! less
