Tsuru Sushi is a very mediocre Japanese restaurant. The food is decent but you get small portions of it- especially for lunch. At lunch time, this place is packed with people who work in the offices around Downtown San Leandro. They do have a small sushi bar. The service here is quite fast. However, they are not Japanese but Chinese (as the case with a lot of Japanese restaurants in Northern California outside of SF.) less

Wow, it's amazing that there are so few reviews!! My wife and I have been going to Tsuru Sushi since shortly after it opened in 1997 (about 2 years). This place is great. It's got everything you could want:1) Business Hours are until 9:30 week nights, much later weekends2) The restaurant is large enough for any party and small enough for consistently fabulous service3) Owned by two local people whose care and attention to detail creates a casual atmosphere that's focussed on the customer.4) Ordinary sushi tastes extraordinary because their fish is always fresh and real effort goes into making every piece.5) The specialty sushi, like sea urchin, are beyond my tastes, so I defer to the regulars who love it--they say it's some of the freshest they've ever had.If I sound like I work for this restaurant--I don't. I just can't pass up an opportunity to give credit where credit is due...Since the proof is in the pudding, check them out and see if it isn't the best sushi and the best atmosphere around. Tsuru Sushi has been open only a few weeks but its garnering a large following in Sushi starved San Leandro. There is a delightful selection of fresh (and sometimes unusual) seafood available at the Sushi Bar, and if you are an enthusiast, by all means, sit at the Bar and be entertained by the Sushi chef in his expert and imaginative execution of the art. But if you are not in love with sushi, don't let that stop you from coming here. There is a large selection of cooked specialties available from the traditional Tempura, sukiyaki, and teriyaki to the more exotic soft shelled crab, deep fried chicken (tori karaage) and one of my favorites Tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlet served with tonkatsu sauce) less
