The Ukrainian Home was formly church property and at the turn of the century housed the office of the adjacent Laurel Lake Mill. The Uke was established in 1958 by Walter Kott. The trade mark for the Uke is the "smiling fish". Back in 1958 our loyal following (many of them fishermen) decorated the then bare walls with their prize winning catches! The restaurant is now in their third generation of serving Polish, Ukrainian and a variety of American dishes and fine spirits to our local and out of town guests. The restaurant is air-conditioned for your comfort.Starters include Buffalo wings, Chicken fingers, Breaded zucchini, Fried scallops, Onion rings, Steamers, Golumbki (cabbage stuffed rice and hamburger), Potato Pierogi(dumplings filled with mashed potatoes and fresh farmers cheese), Cabbage pierogi(dumplings filled with sauteed cabbage, sauerkraut and onions), Antipasto, Cabbage soup (Kapusta), New England clam chowder, Kielbasa, Golumbki Plate or Kielasa Plate. Dinners include Beef liver and onions, Black Diamond steak (marinated), Chourico and French fries, Chourico with mushrooms and onions, Ham steak, Hamburger steak and Choice Delmonico Steaks. Seafood includes Broiled schrod, Clamboil, Fish and chips, Fish of the day, Fried scallop or shrimp plate and the Seafood plate. By now you should be saying "Smaczne" which means tasty! There is an assorted sandwiches list of 100% Philly beef steaks, Chourico, Kielbasa with many others you might remember from the '50s era. There are Grinders and Pizzas.Desserts include Cheesecake, Chocolate Outrage Cake and Mud Pie. Fine spirits including various beers (bottled and draft), wines and your favorite cocktails are available. There is also a take-out menu for those really in a hurry. The Uke is a family restaurant that immerses you in a period of history forgotten but not lost at least not in Fall River, MA. Its a cozy and friendly restaurant that promotes family values and makes it a local meeting place for neighbors and alike. Their are Gift certificates available.
