This is my favorite place to eat in the entire world, and I've been to lots of the "best" places. The setting, nestled between three mountains is breathtaking in the winter. The food is not far behind. The menu is recently changed, but my favorite, the beef Wellington remains. The elk filet is also quite good. Even my carnivore friends like the vegetable streudel, so vegans should not feel left out. And you must get the banana's Foster for the tableside fire display. The staff is quite friendly, greeting repeat customers by name. For a 5 star experience, they don't care if you show up in stinky ski clothes. My husband and I will drive 100 miles out of our way for dinner here. less

The Convict Lake Restaurant has items on the menu you wouldn't expect in such a rugged location; the menu reads like that of a Beverly Hills eatery. It is a pleasant surprise, but a costly one: prices are sky-high, and typical of such venues the portions are dinky. If you have the money and you're in the area it's a very nice experience, but don't drive out of your way to be held at gastronomic gunpoint since Convict Lake is several miles off the highway. The other negative about the restaurant is that it is the only one in Convict Lake, and is not really a family restaurant. less

We have been visiting this restaurant for 10 years and find it consistantly one of the best in Mammoth Lakes area. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and always willing to assist in any manner. My husband had a special meal which was discontinued on the regular menu. The staff made a point to make sure it was available for him with only a days notice. The soups are incredible and the desserts are a must. What more could you ask for, good food, good service and a wonderful view of Mt. Morrison. We go every time we visit, which is monthly. less

Per Doctors orders I have to watch my chlorestorel and fat intake. Before eating here I informed them of this before arriving and was told there would be no problem. We we arrived I asked if margarine was available. I was told that if I wanted it I would have to go next store and buy it, even though there were under the same ownership. I did, and the meal was downhill from then on. The service was pretentious and snobby, even to my wife who was not on any restrictions. They seemed to try to make us feel as unconfortable as possible. The food was only mediocre, definitly not worth the approximatly $100 for 2 w/o drinks. Don't waste your money here, their are many fine restaurants just up the road from here in the town of Mammoth, that have better food and service for less money. less
