The food is GREAT, but be prepared for a long wait to be seated. This place gets really crowded on the weekends. My only complaint would be that they are always closed around major holidays, which is when I'm usually in the area. So, if you plan to go during a holiday time, be sure to call first before you take the long drive out to Catawba. less

This place is wonderful...my wife and myself had the good fortune to go there on Superbowl Sunday..we had it almost to ourselves! The food is great, well-prepared family style Southern cooking. Each selection tastes like it should, very flavorful, no disappointments at all. The location is very peaceful too. We enjoyed our experience, found it to be well worth the drive and the price, and would heartily recommend it to everyone! Hint- if you aren't nuts about football, remember Superbowl weekend is a GREAT time to visit them. less

It is amazing! I love this restaurant. I no longer live in southwestern VA, but whenever I am visiting The Home Place is a must. My family has been going to The Home Place for my entire life. They have delicious southern style food, which is served family style in limitless quantities. My family ritually avoids eating for the entire day before visiting so that we may gorge ourselves. We're not the only ones that have a soft spot in our hearts for this VA culinary and historical icon as evidenced by the inevitable wait that always accompanies a visit. The food is well worth waiting for, however, and with so many nice porch swings and a gazebo there's plenty of seating to lounge on while you chat up your friends and relatives and take in the beautifully lush hillside. less
