This is clearly a five star experience. The only reason it averages lower than 5.0 (so far) is surely past scores representing the previous ownership.
This is absolutely my favorite restaurant and I continue to go a couple times a year despite it being expensive. Why? More than anything else, the dining room is about adventures in taste.
See if you agree the waiter's note that the "earthiness in this wine resonates with the deep flavor of the foie gras, " or if you are amused by the tiny, inside-out BLT.
I strongly recommend taking the wine menu tasting option. But get someone else to drive if you do (!)
Also, souffles are wonderful.

Jon Sears has done an excellent job with this restaurant, creating a dining experience which competes with some of the top restaurants in San Francisco, but out in the Peninsula suburbs.
He offers 2 prix-fixe menus, one a "tasting menu" with set courses, and the other a 4 course extravaganze that you choose. Paired wines are available with all dishes (very well chosen).
Notably the starters and desserts truly standout. (try the Coriander Frozen Souffle if it's available!)
All in all, a very creative menu, impeccably served in a quiet intimate setting.
NOTE: Actually finding this restaurant can be a challenge! It's in a house which is down an alley 100ft. off El Camino.
Prices for your meal can run from $80 -> $140 per person depending on how lavish you go. less

Although the portions might seem small at first, Chef Jon Sears does such wonderful magic in his kitchen that you will be pleasantly suprised at the end of one of his dinners. The food is creative and beautifully presented. The building itself is a 1907 guest house from the original Borel Estate and has many interesting craftsman touches (check out the inlaid hardwood floors). And do not leave before you have tried one of the wonderful desserts. This place is a gem and should be a must on your dining list. There are only 35 seats, so try going during the week (they are open Tuesday through Saturday). less

The previous owners of The Dining Room closed in May 1999, and I must say that the new owners Jon Sears and Asa Wong have done wonders. The Dining Room, which opened recently in September is set in a 1907 country cottage. This is the perfect place to go for any occasion. From the moment you step into the restaurant, it's as if you have stepped back in time... with memories of old world Hawaiian plantation. The cuisine is simply delightful, along with the ambiance. I had their 6-course monthly tasting menu "A Tribute To Hawaii, " and it was superb. There is also an a la carte menu, which is more contemporary multi-cultural. They also had wine pairing available. When we left, it felt like magic! It was by far, the one of the best dining experiences I've had. I highly recommend The Dining Room! less
