This is a fun place to go in Denver, a city lacking in "Fine Dining". There are stuffed antelopes, elk, moose, buffalo, and even "Impala" (which don't belong with the local game) heads, adorning the walls. Supposedly Buffalo Bill would come in here, when it was mainly a bar, around the year 1895. This is a wild game and steak restaurant, so plan your menu accordingly. There is still a "saloon" atmosphere to this restaurant. On my first visit, I tried the "elk chops", which had a wild game with "juniper berry" flavor (that went along with my "Beefeater martinis"); but on the second visit I preferred the "Filet mignon" (buffalo, I think). This is not a "Gourmet" restaurant, but is enjoyable, nevertheless, as a Denver "Institution". less

National Historic Landmark. Opened in 1893. Many celebrites have dined at Buckhorn including 5 Presidents, Bob Hope, James Cagney, J. Edgar Hoover, Buffalo Bill & Chief Red Cloud. Over 500 animal trophies adorn the walls including buffalo, moose, elk, and bear along with Native American artifacts and over 120 antique firearms. Original oak floors and metal ceiling are stil in place. Many dining tables are poker tables brought from Germany over 110 years ago. Colorado liquor license No. 1 still on display over the handcarved oak bar built in 1857. Prime dry aged Colorado beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, pheasant, quail, and baby back pork ribs. Alligator, rattlesnake, and buffalo sausage appetizers and specialty of the house, Rocky Mountain Oysters. Open for lunch M-F 11:30PM, Dinner nightly. A don't mis if you're in Denver. less
