I went there for the first time and that time will be my last time. I will not return to this restaurant again due to service discrimination. I am Asian and not once the waitstaff came over to check on how my husband and I to see how we were doing or that we needed any water or tea. I didn't mind that they didn't bother us. What was really bothersome was the fact that they went around us to other "non-Asian" couples and diners to check on them (repeatingly!!!)to see how they're doing and what else they needed. I was moreso disappointed at the manager having this attitude towards fellow Asian diners. He gazed at us and just walked away until the the end when he brought the check to us. For Non-Asian diners, you will get the best service here, plenty of kowtowing and smiles. For my fellow Asian diners, if you had a great experience with this place, wonderful. For those of you who haven't try it yet, just something to keep in mind. I guess it may be the tipping issue. We always go out to eat and are pretty generous when it comes to tipping (w/ good service of course); my guess is that the staff and manager at this place may have had bad tips in the past from former Asian diners; therefore, the thinking is why need to service the Asian group while we could catered towards the Non-Asians. This is definetly a word approach to run a business. less

I had already received a positive recommendation from a close friend when I read this negative posting about Thai Satay. I decided to try the restaurant anyway, and I am very glad that I did. I am a vegetarian and I had no trouble finding interesting, flavorful menu selections. I was intrigued by the previous reviewer's eggroll experience because it states clearly on the menu that the eggrolls contain chicken. It seems that she did not read the menu correctly, and then decided to blame her mistake on the restaurant! The ambiance and service were excellent, and the tables were not oppressively close together as she stated. <br> Overall, I had a great experience at this restaurant eating a vegetarian meal, and my dining partner really enjoyed the chicken satay and the seafood curry. If you like your food spicy be sure to let the server know, because their dishes are not as spicy as other Thai restaurants I have been to in the past. less

Clearly this place has gone down hill since the last review. Went there today w/my hubby based on the good reviews here. Pretty small and semi-cramped restaurant as seating was a tad too close together. Decor was average Thai decor. Their vegetarian selection was very average to that of any other Thai restaurant. They had a salmon special my hubby ordered which was in a curry coconut milk sauce. I ordered a Tofu spinach dish which was on the specials. For appetizer we ordered egg rolls. I ordered a Thai iced tea. The waiter who took our order was clearly unhappy for some reason as he never smiled or really made eye contact & when he delivered dishes he kind of mildly tossed them on the table and didn't respond in anyway when we said thank you. Our egg rolls arrived not all that long after ordering. My hubby had finished about half his before I took my first bite as they were dangerously too hot to bite into right away! Once I did get a bite I realized there was meat in them and I either didn't catch that when reading the menu or they added it and it wasn't stated on the menu. I am not used to egg rolls having meat in them so I normally never have to say vegetarian egg rolls so out of habit I may had not looked and ordered them assuming it would be no different then any other Asian (in general) restaurant I have dined at. Regardless, I called the lady over who I assume ran the place and kindly said that sorry I didn't realize there was meat in these and could we please exchange for vegetarian egg rolls. She was utterly confused and just stood there smiling. I repeated myself and she said there's chicken in them. I said yes, that's why I cannot eat them, I do not eat meat and didn't know these had meat. My husband then said if it's an issue we'll pay for them, but we just need meatless egg rolls please. She took them away still very confused and was clearly pissed off as my husband got a look at her face as she turned to the cook to tell him the "situation". Our dishes came before our second set of egg rolls. My dish was just a huge pile of spinach and mushrooms in a tasteless mushroom broth w/ tofu. Tasted like absolutely nothing so I had to use some of my hubbies curry sauce to add flavor. His dish was good tasting, but he said the salmon was very rubbery and he's never had rubbery salmon so we haven;t a clue how they got it to be that texture. because of that he'd never order that again. The sauce was good though. Our "egg rolls" finally came, but they were spring rolls instead ( I hate spring rolls). We didn't say anything as it was pointless. They were the largest spring rolls ever! Slightly smaller then a small burrito! Not sure if that's seriously how they serve them or if they were just careless about wrapping them due to their uncalled for annoyance w/ us. There was tons of extra spring roll skin hanging off and spring roll skin is really nasty tasting all by itself! When I accidentally chewed off a big glob of it it pretty much tasted how fresh paint smells. Nasty! So our bill came and they actually charged us for both the egg rolls and the spring rolls~! Yes, my husband expressed we would pay for both if it was a problem, but we seriously didn;t expect they'd have such an issue with it that they'd have the nerve to charge us. Just comes across as very very un-customer oriented. I have had to send dishes back a few times in my life (try not too as much as possible) and have been w/ others dining that have sent dishes back for whatever the reason for a replacement and never ever have I or they been charged for the replacement dish because it's just commonplace and courtesy not to charge the customer for such a thing. It's one thing when the customer eats half or more of the dish, but taking a couple bites and realizing they cannot eat the dish is another. Wasted food regardless, yes, but the point is to make the customer happy and this was clearly not this restaurants goal. So we paid $42 for 2 appetizers we didn't eat/like, a rubbery salmon dish and a completely tasteless tofu spinach dish basically. One of the worst Thai restaurants I have been to in a very very longtime and I'd say I/we try a new one every few months. Oh! Be careful when going to the bathrooms it's behind the shutter doors in which there always seemed to be a person on the other side that is ready to the door your way and smack you in the head or reverse. I was about to push one of these very narrow doors open and there was someone coming out. He stood to the side and I walked in and the carpet runner was folded upwards and caused me to partially trip inwards. Walking to the bathroom I had to walk all the way to the back through their disgusting kitchen and over more potentially dangerous carpet runner. Bathroom is not made for customer use clearly so they really should just not allow customers to use it or simply make it more presentable. Walking back out the same situation w/ the door occurred as the same person happened to be coming back through and almost smacked me in the head w/ the door. I only was able to dodge because I saw him through the tiny crack between the 2 shutter doors. less

This one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to, and is on-par with Nipa Pon Thai in San Mateo in terms of quality of food. Their lunch specials are great, with soup, salad, and two small entrees. The service is great and attentive, the decor pleasing. The food choice is excellent, and there are a bunch of selections for vegetarians. The taste is distinct, flavorful, and you get cravings for certain dishes from Thai Satay when you're day-dreaming. I highly recommend them. Great place, a frequent destination for my coworkers. less

This is a very reasonably priced Thai restaurant that is very flavorful and with ample portions. Lunch can be very busy (a lot of business people) and dinner can be crowded sometimes because of the small seating arrangements. But service and food quality are wonderful. Most times you'll get a smiling face to go along with the great food. Tapioca dessert is a wonderful pallet cleanser after you've had some spicy eggplant or curry dish. Dishes that are labeled spicy are generally not incredibly spicy but has just enough kick to keep your lips tingling. less

This is one of the better Thai restaurants on the Peninsula. The food is always good and fresh. Try the fried sweet potatoes. The Sunday brunch is not only fun but reasonably priced. The buffet includes enough variety for everyone to find something they like including omeletes "made to order" with Thai ingredients. The service is always friendly and the presentation is always very nice. A word of advice - if you like your Thai food very spicy, ask for your dish to be hot or you may be disappointed. less
