A local Avis rental salesman told us about this place. It's not a typical restaurant as much as it really is more like a country store with not much else but food for sale. Bright red paint adorn the walls that surround huge picnic tables inside and out. You order the 10+ different kinds of meat by the 1/2 lb or whole pound. They also have quite an assortment of sides, cold and hot. Sliced bread is free with buns and tortillas at $0.25 a peice. A large trough in the main room contains a collection of ice cold soda (mostly Stewarts brand). They also have beer. We asked a local about what is "normal" to order. 1/2lb of lean brisket and a side is plenty for two people. We also got the bbq beans and two drinks for $13. They serve you everything in wax paper lined Coke delivery case (pretty handy). We found a table, spread out our wax paper placemats and commenced the eating. Two Rudy's BBQ sauces are at every table (one hot, one not). The meat was pretty "spiced" as it was. It was more of a Carolina BBQ-style. We tried the normal hot BBQ sauce and it was delicious. It reminded me of John Boy and Billy's Grillin' Sauce that you can get in some grocery stores. Smokey and tangy with a real nice flavor. It's the only other sauce I've seen with anchovies in the ingredients (like John Boy and Billy's). The potato salad was pretty standard. I would have liked to have put the BBQ sauce on that. The baked beans weren't my style. The beans were very firm and the sauce had no signature bbq sauce in it. It was a bit on the peppery side, but not over powering. It was different, but the hard beans made it unenjoyable. When we first arrived there was a small line, but no one in the place. A sign outside said they were renovating. By the time we left, there was quite a crowd. I would go back pretty often if I lived in ABQ. The prices were cheap and if you didn't mind eating sliced bread at home with it, a full pound was under $6 and you could feed two adults and two children with it for sure. The only place in town where the, "Sauce is the Boss!" Rudy's provides more than just your typical BBQ servings of ribs, pork, and potateo salad, their unique selection of pulled pork, turkey, sausage links, chicken (by the whole or half bird), salmon, ribs(spare and baby), and are avaiable deli style. Buy by the 1/4 lb. perfect for the sandwich lover or by the ten's of lbs. for your picnic and family gatherings. That's the great thing about Rudy's your dollar will go far, and leave you full. My perosnal choice is the loaded baked potateo, I'm talking a king spud loaded with your choice of meat, usually a 1/4-3/4 lb. of meat (turkey is my personal fav). For less than 7 bucks you get a full meal, with some to take to the starving roomies or loveable pets, and a big gulp with in a Rudy's take home suviouner cup. But by all means go aheah and head to Quater's and spend your weekly paycheck on slow service and weak sauce. The sauce is the soul of the food, and yes there's a milder sauce for those not fit for that kick we all yearn for in all are BBQ food. And the only person that your waiting on is usually your party that cann't make up their minds on what to eat. Oh an the selection of beer is more to my taste, blue collar working class man/woman, who enjoys nothing more than great BBQ, great friends, and the great people who brought Rudy's here to the Southwest. less

They gost the best meats cooked up all juicy and good, some steamy taters all drenched up in butta.Plus they sale this nector of the gods in a bottle called bar-b-q saws its the best hickory flavor spiced sauce my tounge has ever licked up!!! less

well.. i've never been a bbq person.. i went to JRs once.. and i hated it. well.. one of my friends used to work at rudys and she got me a job there too.. its a pretty clean restaraunt compared to all the yucky stories u hear about mcdonalds etc. ... more

The baked potatoes. butter, sour cream, and cheese.. topped with brisket, turkey, or your choice of meat are the best..i love the extra lean brisket sandwiches with a single of beans. our bbq sause is a lil spicey.. but we also have a "sissy" sause thatthe kids can use. I love working at Rudy's and i love eating at Rudy's too!! I would recomend Rudys for anyone! less

There are a large number of plastic gingham table-clothed picnic type tables to your left as you walk in the large market. There are a reach-in cooler of cold soft drinks and you mosey on up to the serving counter to place your order. Straight ahead are the sides, all the old favorites like cole slaw, potato salad, beans, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, et al. Slide your plastic cafeteria tray over to your right, and a butcher will weigh out your meat order. Oh, the smoked prime rib is awesome! Good lean brisket, ham, chicken, ribs, duck, turkey, uh, can't recall it all, but I spent $20 just for myself! Unfortunately they give you half a loaf of that slightly stale, cellulose known as sliced white bread. They bottle their own sauce, which is a piquant, tomato based blend, with more roots in Texas than in KC. less
