Great, great restaurant. It is really more of an American/Hawaiian restaurant. When I am there I always order the Poke. I would also recommend the Goliah Stew, a delicious seafood stew. The menu has a very wide variety of food from Pot Roast to Sole Picatta. They also have an excellent sunday brunch with great corned beef hash and Joe's special. All this and a full bar with Guiness on Tap. A perfect neighborhood restaurant. less

The menu has been refined and expanded a bit since they first opened many years ago. They have a slightly larger variety of dishes that everyone dining will be sure to find something they like. I tend to return to their seafoods and pastas. Portions are adequate and you will not go home hungry. The staff is friendly and the room, decorated in wood (and portholes along the wall), is comfortable. It can get a little on the noisy side in the front room where the bar is. They also have two TVs at each end of the bar. I don't think this place is well known outside of the neighbourhood, which is too bad since it's a good place to go for a decent unpretentious meal at reasonable prices. less

This is a neighborhood bar and restaurant. Probably not well known outside of a ten block radius. But if you do find it, you'll probably be pleased. Comfortable atmosphere and a friendly staff. Good bar and above average appetizers. The entrees are pretty good, but the wine list needs work. Their specialty is the pot roast, and I think it taught me that I just don't like pot roast; didn't do much for me but others rave about it. less

I want to add a review for Rick's Restaurant on Taraval in San Francisco. It's listed as Hawaiian, and yes, they do have some Hawaiian-style food (like good poki and a monthly luau!). HOWEVER...it's been seriously underrated as just a "Hawaiian" restaurant; it should fall in a more diverse category. It's a very friendly, comfortable, neighborhood-style restaurant with a full bar and a very diverse (and excellent!) menu. They call it 'San Francisco comfort food' which is demonstrated in dishes like pot roast, excellent mashed potatoes, grilled chicken, etc. The diverse menu includes wonderful fresh fish dishes (sole picatta, grilled mahi, etc.), pasta, meats, excellent vegetarian dishes, appetizers (they serve some of the best calamari fritti I've had in the City), salads, soups, etc. It's a menu that can please just about everyone's tastes and appetites. The food is very "clean" and healty and can be prepared without oils, etc. Daily specials are added to the standard menu. The service is great, they make a killer martini, and the prices are very reasonable ($9.00 to $15.00). Definitely worth checking out! less

Fantastic Neighborhood Restuarant. Quality of service is above reproach. Appetizer list is typical Californian style. Crab Dip is especially good and the Roasted Ravolias have never been bad Ceaser Salad is probably the best ceasar Salads availble in the outer Sunset Entrees all come with choice of Orsa Pasta, Mashed Potatoes, or Hawain Style Rice. One of the FEW places that I am aware that has Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper has a regular item on the entree list. Wine list is dynamic and totally reasonably priced. If there is a down side to Ricks it would be the lack of innovation on the dessert menu. Although the items on the menu are good. (Chocolate Mousse, Ice Cream, Tapioca Pudding) less
