I´m giving the restaurant at "The Lodge" five stars, but it´s four stars (still good!) for the restaurant, and an extra star for the ambiance of this 1898, elegant hostelry! Gorgeous. Once a summer retreat for the monied people who rode the train up from El Paso, 120 miles south. Cloudcroft, at 9, 000ft. elevation, is still a playground (picnicing, camping, skiing, etc.) for El Pasoans, and others from the Texas Panhandle, and Southern New Mexico. Dine atop the Sacramento Mountains, in the pines, at this wonderful old place. "The Lodge" also is (or was) home to the highest golf course in the U.S. Bring your heart medicine and oxygen tank! :-) Great views of White Sands below. Classy! less

This place has a lot of history and it is printed on the menu. There is a story about Rebecca, who was killed, roaming around the lodge hunting her lover and some people say they have seen her. The food is good but a little expensive. If you want to spend a little more and have a nice night out, this is the place to go. When I was there, they had a piano player who took requests from the patrons. Has a lot of atmosphere and sits on top of the mountain. less
