Potato City -- despite the motel -- is on the tonier side for the region, but still serves a small-town clientele padded by itinerant bands of hunters.
Variety is its relative strong point -- few other places in town offer a good baked fish for dinner. Preparation and quality of ingredients is average. Many choices are generously salted and fried. Don't expect mescale, pesto, whole grains or osso buco.
The decoration is indeed kitschy, but this is part of the fun -- sweat and blood has gone into weaving white Christmas lights throughout the suspended ceiling, and an explosion of mauve and pink ruffles makes the large dining areas as comfortable as Nana's tea cozy.

The family-style Potato City doubles as a moderately priced motor inn for the weary traveler/hunter/snowmobiler and restaurant. I never thought that such a combination would yield such great food! I ate there three times - and not once did I have anything dissapointing.
You can get anything from grilled cheese and chili to lobster. The prime rib is excellent, as is a dish called Chicken Oscar, which is chicken smothered with crab meat and a hollandaise sauce. Yum! The salad bar is stocked with really cool, odd things like a creamy pea salad and various pasta and veggie salads.
The main dining room is attractively decorated and bright. The smoking section (where I dined) is located in same area as the bar, so its a little noisy. The table ware was a little on the cheesy side (hard plastic plates and bowls), but easy to overlook.
The next time you are cruising down Route 6, definitely give Potato City a try. less
