If you are in the mood for an enjoyable, casual, REAL BBQ meal while in Williamsburg, then head to Pierce's "Pit". It's really a neat little counter service restaurant, aka Burger King, with orange and red formica booths and tables. Forget about the ambience and grab a plate of fall off the bone, baby back ribs...fantastic cooking for very "short money." Be sure to take home a bottle of Pierce's sauce for your next BBQ.....but you'll probably have to come back to get the real deal. We'll make it a stop on our next visit for sure!! less

For my money, Pierce's Pitt BBQ is the best BBQ in Virginia. The star at Pierce's is the delicious pulled pork sandwiches. Complete with Doc's own sauce, this BBQ comes with slaw on the bun.(yes yankees, you read it right)Other favorites are the Super Doc, which serves BBQ on a sub roll with onions and melted cheese. MMMMMMM! BBQ is also available in 1/2 Pints ($3.15), pints ($6.25) and quarts ($12.45) cold to go. Ribs? Yup!! Both 1/2 and full racks ala carte or as a dinner. Try the Hushpuppies. They're crunchy and delicious with anything. Traditionally they are served with catfish. Yup, you can get that here too! Also available is BBQ Chicken, both as a dinner or with BBQ. You can't go wrong. Pierce's is a bit hard to find. I got lost both going to and coming from. Even with a map it can be tricky. If you can't find it, ask any local. Pierce's was voted Best BBQ for the 4th year in a row by Southern Living Readers. Try it once and you'll know why. It's worth the drive. less
