How Berkeley can you be? This diner serves only vegetarian food. My sister, who hasn't eaten meat in 5 years, says everything is amazing. Being an active carnivore, I am less apt to agree. But even the veggie corn dogs satisfied me. A huge menu, containing foods that vegetarians dare to dream about and never thought they'd eat again. A great concept, and I think everyone should go there so they can stay open. It has enough to please most people, vegetarian or not, although the most avid carnivores should probably stay away. less

If you are a Vegetarian you will bless Michael's Vegetarian American Diner. the food there is so good that you don't feel like you are missing out on something by being a vegetarian. Quite frankly you aren't. Meat eaters are actually quite satisfied when they go to Michael's as well. The service is consistantly great and so is the food. health-wise... the restaurant rates high on a whole. The atmosphere is very nice it is 50-60's without being overdone. All I can say is eat it up, yum! less

Michael's has a 50's-style diner ambience, which goes well, in a quirky sort of way, with the gen-x crowd which seems to frequent it. This is one of the few places in the Bay Area where I have found a veggie Reuben sandwich, and theirs is pretty darned good. They also have tasty pizzas and veggie burgers, though I must admit that I haven't ventured much beyond the Reuben. ;) An enjoyable dining experience. less
