Mavi is a really cool place that I recently discovered. Think of all of the amazing food from throughout the Mediterranean world on one menu. I am totally hooked on their wonderful meze platter appetizer. It is a wonderful way to begin a meal, especially with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio. Then I would advise you not to miss the wonderful grilled Mediterranean sea bass, which just melts in your mouth. less

Mavi is the nicest place that I know of in the entire Hartford area. They are a Mediterranean restaurant that specializes in dishes using seafood. The awesome thing is that they also have amazing meat dishes and vegetarian options there are taken seriously, not as too often is the case--as an afterthought. Mavi is the only place I have ever been to that always brings out high quality dishes from such a huge range of cultures. When I go there I love having the chance to pick and choose from their gigantic menu loaded with options from Turkish, Italian, French, Greek, Spanish, and other dishes which are a creative interpretation of the effect that the intermixing between these cultures had on the cuisine. Paradoxically, there is no such thing as one solitary Mediterranean cuisine, on the other hand, the Mavi concept of Mediterranean Fusion Cuisine makes sense because the climate of the Mediterranean region allows a for the same crops to flourish. From there, we get the overly admired in the West concept of the Mediterranean diet, which logically, creates Barbie doll women and Greek god men through the eating of pastas, lamb, fruit, and the drinking of large amounts of wine. As we know, this is not the case, but it is pretty funny if you think about it? I'm going on endlessly, but I really love Mavi and I would love to see them get a little more attention for their great work. P.S. -- I love to order the Duck L'Orange spring rolls, Mediterranean Cobb Salad, and Meat Mixed Grill platter when I go there. And don't forget the wine! En Vino Veritas!!! less
