FANTASTIC vegetarian Chinese food, and one of my favorite overall restaurants. The menu offers a huge selection (over 200 items), and I've enjoyed most everything I've ordered. Fresh veggies and tasty faux meats (I've witnessed vegans get snooty over the fakes, but there are plenty of selections without any pretenders, as well), and the food is served promptly. Lu Lai Garden has now been around the block for several years, serving vegi Chinese as well as dim sum (lunch). Overall, a good value for money; the lunch specials are inexpensive (about $5) and the main menu items are reasonably priced (most $6-9). The sizzling platters, clay pots and curries jazz the menu a bit and the soups and appetizers are varied - good though only a few have stood out (in contrast to some of the SF/Oakland vegi Chinese which have several outstanding appetizers on their menus). Most diners I've gone with opt for interesting main course(s) over appetizers, though the sweet and sour soup is a favorite. Lu Lai also sells wheat gluten and a few other items by weight for home cooking. Overall, a decent vegi restaurant in the area - also check out the reviews for Vegetarian House or White Lotus in San Jose. less

This is a vegetarian restaurant, on their own menu even specify "Delicious Chinese Vegetarian Cuisine with No Meat, it opens 7 days a week, during weekdays, is a lot of people at lunch hours, mostly are people from work because it is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, I suggest that to arrive early for lunch. They have lunch special that serve with soup or salad, with a bowl of rice and the main entree. The price sticks around $5.00-7.00. It's worth to eat there. Lots of parking space. You have nothing to loose to eat there. Food is pretty good. less

I'm surprised by the other ratings. I have been here twice and found everything exceedingly tasty. Some of the openers are unusual and those unknown to me were exquisite surprises. The ingredients are of good quality and the subsequent rendering finely executed. All my companions (~dozen including some hard-to-please foodies) were similarly impressed. The time between ordering and eating seems to be on the long side, but worth the wait. less

I love vegetarian food and Chinese food, but this haole found the food here extremely unappetizing. Why try to imitate meat dishes with the funky flavors? Why not emphasize the freshness of the vegetables instead? The stuff ordered by our group of 10 tasted mostly like it was made from canned ingredients. The food sat heavy on the plate and in the stomach. The dessert, sesame soup, was cloyingly sweet -- a bad end to a very disappointing meal. Maybe our group will go again and I can try the only thing that I liked, the "Chinese Pizza" as our orderers called it. (I don't know the Chinese name for it, although they did.) Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, at least to my taste buds. Or maybe I was expecting some tasty fresh vegetables instead of the ersatz meat dishes that we were served. less

Located in the "Ranch 99" mall on the SW corner of the Hwy 880 and Hwy 237 junction, this restaurant serves dim-sum as well as the traditional Chinese food faire. The names of the dishes refer to meat such as Beef Chow Mein but it is all vegetarian. The food was good. Like other vegie restaurants, the food is on the heavy side with ingredients such as gluten and oils. Good variety at a decent price. less
