I was a Pratt Student in the early 1980's. At that time, Kum Kau was the only store in the neighborhood that stayed open past 8pm. Walking there from the dormitory was only about 200 yards, however, it was like running the gauntlet. I think it was there that I had my first experience eating dog. Or something that resembled meat. I remember neighborhood cats constatntly disappearing. I had the misfortune of eating at Kum Kau recently upon my return to Pratt as a teacher. The place had been remodeled, but they kept the signature 2" thick bulletproof plexiglass. While the food was marginal (same as any other Chinese take out in NY) It wasn't anything worth travelling to Brooklyn for. I certainly would recommendfor fast local takeout, nothing more. less
