I can't remember the name, but if you can find it on the menu; it's worth a try. less

Unless you are Korean, its pretty likely you haven't tried Korean BBQ before. Located on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa, here's a great place to check it out! Korean BBQ is great because there are many choices from pretty tame beef dishes prepared somewhat like you'd get at a Benihana/teppan-style Japanese place as well as exotic pickled cold dishes and entrees. This is a good Korean barbeque restaurant, and you have the option of having food grilled at your table or prepared to taste in the kitchen. It is quite fun to order various sliced/marinated meats and have the friendly waitress cook the food right in front of you. First, you start off with an assortment of cold pickled dishes, including kimchee (spicy pickled cabbage) and pickled radishes, etc. You also get some soup (I think it's made with a daikon radish, or something like that) and a cold salad. If you like beef, try out the Bulgogi (sp?), marinated cuts of beef grilled at your table. Make sure to ask for lettuce; the waitress will give you plates of lettuce leaves that you can use to make "Korean tacos." Just take a leaf of lettuce, smear it with some rice and the sauce they give you, throw on some bulgogi or dak-bulgogi (BBQ chicken) and some fresh sliced garlic and Jalapeno chiles and chomp on it like a taco. Mmmm! Wash it down with some OB, a Korean lager beer, to cool down a bit. Note that they also serve other dishes as well. There are other BBQ meats (and a veggie plate for grilling) if you are more adventurous, including squid (a little rubbery for my taste), tripe, etc.
Korea house is quite a good place to go to try out Korean BBQ, and the prices are reasonable. The service is good, though the place can get a bit crowded on weekends. Seating is comfortable, with large booths available both with grills that include large hoods overhead to vent out the grilling smoke, and some booths without grills. They also have some floor seating akin to what's offered at some Japanese restaurants and a sushi bar, though I've never eaten their sushi. I've been to Korean BBQs up in LA's Koreatown district, and I think this place ranks up there with them. Craig Walsh less
