Julian's Mexicatessen / Taqueria / Tortillaria / Panderia is in a little shopping strip right along side Carson St., and there is next to zero parking. They need some, though, because the food is seriously good here and once people start discovering Julian's, there is going to have to be some kind of traffic control. The fresh tortillas are excellent, and amazingly cheap. The burritos are huge, the pollo asado burrito makes for a hefty lunch and at under $4 is an incredible value. My dad goes here for menudo on Saturdays, and they sell several kinds of handmade tamales for $15 a dozen. Get the green chile and cheese ones, mmmmmmmm good. Where else in the area can you get a two item combo of this kind of quality with rice and beans for under $5? (actually, although the Carson St. strip is enjoying something of a renaissance because of the casino, Hawaiian Gardens is not a safe place to go looking for restaurants at random). Very highly recommended, if you can find a place to park your car and keep an eye on it, or better yet order by phone, zip in and zip back out again. less
