Having had sushi and tempura many places around the country, Ichiban in Asheville is simply the best I've tasted. Their sushi is creative, always fresh, always beautifully presented. Even a "sushi virgin" would love the Americanized versions of sushi which use just cooked foods. <br> A favorite of mine is the Double Dragon Roll, a huge luscious roll of white rice, nori (toasted seaweed), tempura'd shrimp, eel (cooked, positively fabulous!), avocado and spicy minced raw tuna mixed with a creamy thick mayo-type sauce. Topped with either bright orange or ruby-red caviar and a semi-sweet Japanese "barbeque" sauce, this dish is a masterpiece; a feast for the eyes and mouth. <br> For those who cannot bring themselves to order anything raw, which is a shame because the Yellowtail is spectacular in its bright delicate flavor, selections abound using *only* cooked seafood and vegetables. Whatever you do, try the plain Dragon Roll, which uses NO raw seafood. They also have a stellar concoction they call an "Over The Top" roll which you have to see to appreciate. <br> Their tempura shrimp and veggies are outstanding, always crispy, always perfect, and their hibachi is also excellent. It would be very hard to get something bad at Ichiban and in all our years going there, we've never had any food that wasn't fresh and excellent. We drive all the way from Lake Toxaway just for lunch at Ichiban. less

This is the best Japanese restaurant in Asheville. They have 3 dining options: Habachi cooking where you can share the experience with your friends, family and strangers at the same table; regular sit down and order from the menu (more intimate); or a fabulous sushi bar. Each one is excellent. They provide the freshest meats and veggies, wonderful sauces, tasty meso soup, and super staff. Portions are more than you can eat. They also have a lunch special daily less than $10. less
