This is not a Hawaiian restaurant. It's actually Pan-Asian or Polynesian Fusion. I am Native Hawaiian, born and raised in my homeland and here in California for work. I went to the Palo Alto location because I was missing food from back home. This place is pretty good, it has all the local favorites. "Local" in Hawaii means a mix of Korean, Filipino, Hawaiian, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Chinese, Samoan, etc. type foods. Also, in the same style as "local" fast food places like Zippy's, L&L and such...you can get "plate lunches" with two scoops rice and mac salad. If you are looking for authentic Hawaiian cuisine, this is not the place. What it is though is a nice blend of the real cultures that represent the make-up of Hawaii. I have never found any "Hawaiian" restaurants in California that serve food like Masu's in Liliha. Real Hawaiian food unfortunately can still only be found in Hawaii and our second home...Las Vegas, lol! This is a wonderful alternative though. Great atmosphere, friendly people, very-easy going and fun. Much like local places, people come, make noise, talk-story and eat and act da kine. Prices are pretty good for the portion sizes as well. Overall, it's just a fun place to go and the food is good. Since I'm Native Hawaiian and I cook my own food, I'm pretty particular about any place saying their "hawaiian cuisine" but Hukilau is more FUSION than anything and hey... Anybody whose gone to or is from Hawaii knows that we're all hapa anyway. Aloha from this Hapa-Hawaiian Transplant! less

We took my husband for his birthday to Hukilau's. It was an alright hawaiian restaurant, but what i didn't like was the fact that they didn't have Kahlua pork.... what kind of hawaiian restaurant doesn't have kahlua pork??? So... ... more

We took my husband for his birthday to Hukilau's. It was an alright hawaiian restaurant, but what i didn't like was the fact that they didn't have Kahlua pork.... what kind of hawaiian restaurant doesn't have kahlua pork??? So... this was the first time and last i went there, it is very tight specially when the band of hawaiian singers are in there. Waitress was nice and the food was ok so thats why i give it 3 stars... but for hawaiian food i suggest a Touch of Aloha in Milpitas. ALOHA!! less

Hukilau is quite the experience. This slice of Hawaii in the middle of Japantown is entertaining and delicious. <br> Though not an upscale restaurant, the food is excellent. Some of my favorites include the Tako Poke and Kalau Cabbage. Fear not, for the less adventurous, there are burgers available also. <br> Portion sizes are good and the food is always fresh. The staff is friendly and is mostly students. <br> They also have a Poke bar which is open in the evenings which is entertaining to sit at. <br> If you are looking for something different in a fun atmosphere, I would recommend stopping on by. less
