The best German restaurant I have been to, hands-down. This place has a friendly atmosphere, warm and inviting. They have a wonder selection of german beers. I recommend Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss Waarsteiner, Warsteiner Dunkel, and Hacker Pschorr. Draft beer is the way to go here. I had the sauerkraut balls as an appetizer and they were excellent. I also split some potato pancakes with a friend. I must tell you, they were quite tasty. For the entrée, I had the German platter. I picked Knackwurst, Rouladen, and Kassler Rippchen, and we did the sides family style. Let me recommend taking a group of 5 or more, it gives you the opportunity to taste the true german sides. Rot Kraut, sauerkraut, and german potato salad are among my favorite sides that the Bierstube has to offer. The desserts are worth not stuffing yourself at dinner time. You can take home leftovers of your entrée, have dessert! I liked the Black Forest Torte. It was amazing. If you want a taste of Germany, this is the place. I live in Greencastle and it is worth the trip to Terre Haute for Gerhardt’s Bierstube. Ganz gut! less

Everything about the restaurant was as good as we hoped it would be. I couldn't make up my mind on an entree, so the server suggested the German platter whereby one chooses 1/2 portions of any 3 of 5 entrees. My choices of weinerschnitzel, saurbraten, and rouladen were great. The German fried potatoes are excellent. Leave room for dessert. The dark and light Warmeinster beer on draft were very tasty. We're about 70 miles from Terre Haute, but Gerhart's is worth the drive. less
