Generally, the "old money" families are seated upstairs, and the tourists are seated downstairs. Some of the dishes we had were the asparagus salad (fresh), crabmeat maison (very good), filet mignon (perfect), green salad with garlic (quite a kick!), crabmeat St. Pierre (a bit peppery). After both of us had 3 courses, a bottle of wine, 2 glasses of champagne, and a cognac, the bill was a mere $155. Not bad! Banana bread pudding and the shrimp remoulade, not necessarily in that order! less

Galatoire's has been run by the same family since 1905, and its traditions remain intact. A spectacular renovation of the upstairs dining room, which had been closed since World War II, provided much-needed additional seating. A meal here is worth the trip, though you may not have the same experience as an established regular unless you get a waiter who can really guide you (ask for John). We love the lump crabmeat appetizer (think coleslaw, only with crab instead of cabbage), the shrimp rémoulade, and the oysters Rockefeller. For an entree, get the red snapper or redfish topped with sautéed crabmeat meunière (a delightful butter sauce) -- it will probably be one of the finest fish dishes you'll have during your stay. Don't miss out on the terrific creamed spinach and the puffy potatoes with béarnaise sauce, which will make you swear off regular french fries forever. less

Known to be one of the best rated resteraunts in New Orleans. Located on Bourbon Street it has some of the city's finest seafood. Particularly the fresh gulf fish with crabmeat. However, as of late , I've heard many complaints about long lines and while the service is good, the food quality has some what deminished. I must get downtown and see for myself if this fine establishment has lost it's touch. less

If I could only go to one restaurant in NO...I think I would settle for Galatoire's. This is real old fashion New Orleans...ladies still in hats and gloves...gentlemen in suits. The food is classic....I can eat anything here and be happy but ... more

I was expecting a lot more when I went here with a group of friends. We were treated very well, however, the food was not as good as I had hoped. We started with several appetizer sampler plates with several kinds of seafood salads that were pretty good - but I am sure I could duplicate them at home. The Shrimp au Vin with pasta was good, but nothing to write home about. Where are all the New Orleans spices? The best part of the meal was our friendly waiter who served us a special flaming coffee concoction from a big tureen as we ate dessert. less
